Jon -- that's a good one! Was able to watch Botti live where he played for the lady in front of me and I could hear his trumpet from about six feet away. MLs do a good job of reproducing that trumpet.

risabet -- Low Spark of High Heeled Boys is one of my very favorite "classic rock" tunes. Reminded me to fire up my own copy. Still don't know what they're talking about in those lyrics, lol.

Did anyone see Chris Botti on PBS this weekend? I think it was called Chris Botti in Boston. It was amazing.

Sorry there's no pics, but I've had a good couple of listens in the last couple of days:

 • Stravinsky: Ballets boxed set (including the Dorati Firebird and Rite of Spring)
 • Mark Knopfler: Local Hero OST
 • AC/DC: Black Ice
 • Prokofiev: Lt Kije
 • Lou Reed: Transformer
 • Limahl: Never Ending Story 12" single
 • Heaven 17: Come Live With Me 12" single
 • Fat Larry's Band: Zoom 12" single

All on vinyl, of course!

Chris,

KISS Double Platinum! That was always an album I wanted but never purchased back in the day! Great stuff!

My ear is bothering me again so I can't listen to anything and hear it like I should.

If you guys don't have a hearing impairment be happy. Mine came on suddenly a year and half ago but then left me alone for a bit more than a year and when it came back last T-giving, it has stayed. Some days I can hear normally and some days the hearing in my left ear is off 70-80% in the lower frequencies where most all of the sounds we hear reside! SUCKS! The worst thing is that it is not just that I don't hear in that ear, it is the ringing and the delay of the few sounds I do hear that completely ruin it all the way around, so it is not silence in the left ear it is terrible white noise with a nice delay of the few things I do hear!

Be thankful for your good health friends!

Just watched / Listened to the Chris Botti Live with orchestra and special guests concert on BluRay.

This was a great experience, the music is great, the artists are all top-notch and the soundtrack is 5.1 24/96 uncompressed PCM (on the BluRay).

Video quality is over the top on BR, and looked wonderful on the 100” screen.

Well worth it for you Jazz fans.

Jonathan, sounds interesting, I wonder if t's available on regular DVD ???

ahhhh - when did you get your vinyl rig? Did I miss something Wayne?

Yeah, I sort of freaked out about that one at first too Adam. Take a closer look, it's a mirage of sorts. It's a compact disc printed up to look like an LP. Those tricky guys.

Oh crap, so it is!! Obvious now of course - don't know what I was thinking!

Janis Ian Live- Working Without a Net

Great 2-CD (24 song) compilation of some live performances spanning over a decade. Excellent recording, and intelligently mastered with alternating tracks of her reminiscing/introducing tracks, then the song on the following track (so you can optionally rip/listen to only the song tracks).

Good find Alan, I have not listened to Janis is quite a while as all I have is LP's and no way to play them right now.
This recording is as good as I have heard for live music.

Generally when an artists I like comes out with a live recording of previous songs I think " It would be interesting to hear a bit different take on songs I like" but -Don't Screw Them Up- and sound like a totally different song.

The songs on these discs are better than the originals in in my opinion.
The recording gives you the feeling you are setting 6-8 rows back just above the stage level.

I forgot how much I enjoyed her storytelling ability with her simple style and uncluttered sound.
I didn't realize until she mentions it that Society's Child was her first hit at age 14. If you have never listened to her or not in a long time you will not be disappointed with this purchase.

Lot's of good stuff spinning this morning. I started off with an album Rich Teer was looking for a few weeks ago - Antal Dorati leading the LSO in Stravinsky's complete version of "The Firebird" on a Classic re-issue of the Mercury Living Presence release. Keeping with the Modern Russian school the next thing up was another Living Presence re-issue, again with Dorati and the LSO in Prokofiev's "Love for Three Oranges Scythian Suite".

After that came Patricia Barber on a 45RPM Mo-Fi of "Modern Cool". This is one of my favorites by her.

Right now I pulled a real gem out of the collection. I found an UNOPENED copy of The Cure's "Pornography" from back in the days when I had worked at the record store, you can still see the price sticker on it in the picture (gone now that I've defiled it - shrink wrap = BAD). I don't know if you can make out the price in the picture, but it was $7.99. Hard to believe that was what we used to pay for new music.

Next up was "Hope", by Hugh Masekela, a live recording that will demonstrate the full capacity of your system. One of my favorite albums for cranking it up to see what my system can do. Both of these albums I highly recommend, but I think "Hope" is indispensable.

Have seen this one come up again and again, and have refrained from buying it, Figured it would be one of those albums that everyone always brags about the sound quality and then you buy it and the sound quality is great, but ya don't really dig the music. NOT THE CASE HERE.

Picked up the Analog Productions SACD copy, not only is the sound quality superb, but the music is Great. Listened to it not once, but twice this morning.

I couldn't agree more Wayne, it really is a GREAT album. My wife is anything BUT an audiophile, yet she really enjoys this album. If my CD version is missing I can count on finding it in her car!

That's one of my favorite things about this thread, discovering some cool new music (or even re-discovering some great old music) because someone else is playing it!

I started off the morning with Chet Baker - Let's get Lost and I ended up listening to the whole album several times. Very simple, very calm and peaceful. Beautiful music. I had no interruptions for several hours and I spent every minute of it listening.

Then I decided to pick up the tempo just a little bit. I put on a superb stereo SACD by Chesky Records of Johnny Frigo with Bucky & John Pizzarelli - Live from Studio A in New York City. The recording quality is excellent and the imaging and detail is breathtaking.

I have that same piece of vinyl. One of my least fave Cure albums, though. Tim - get that Acoustic Hits album I told you about (bet you didn't!). It's just stunningly good. And the sound quality is just nuts good. Your CLSs will love it! Or PM me your address and I'll send you a copy! How sweet is that?:)

Beautiful day here, in Texas. I started out with an old classic MoFi pressing of Chuck Mangione's, "Feels So Good". I found this album years ago in the "cutouts" area of a record store, new for $1.50. The music is beautiful and the audiophile quality of the vinyl is outstanding.

Next up was, "It Might As Well Be Spring", by Ike Quebec. My thanks to Tim for reviewing this a few weeks ago, it really is very nice and the sound quality of these 45rpm reissues is beyond reproach.

Van Morrison's, "His Band and the E Street Choir" was next on the play list. This recent reissue has great sound, superior to my old original. It's too bad he doesn't put out records like this anymore.

Last up was a music sampler disk, which came free with this month's "Uncut" magazine. The intent of the album is to showcase some current performers in the same vein as Neil Young's style. It is actually pretty darn good and I will probably buy some music from a few of the artists.
