It was one year ago today that I first joined the MLOC. I am humbled by the knowledge and helpfulness of the members on this site. I was definatly not an audiophile when I first joined this site. I was a person who loved music for as long as I can remember. I still wouldn't consider myself an audiophile but a person who loves music that happens to have a little bit of knowledge about audio equipment thanks to the members on this site.

I rarely post on any of the equipment or technical threads, because of my lack of knowledge on the subjects, but I read everyone and am learning everyday.

They say we are creatures of habit, I had my last system for over 18 years before replacing everything and purcahsing the one I have now. So I figure that will be the case with my current system. So far I have successfully fought off the dreaded Joeyitis disease, Although I came very close to pulling the trigger on a pair of used Summits I'd found on the Gon for $7,500. I'm back to normal and enjoying what I have.

My favorite forums are the music reviews and my favorite thread is Sunday Morning Music. Below is a list of Artists I now have in my collection that were not there a year ago, thanks to the suggestions of members from this site. I am a rocker by nature but I feel I've mellowed with age,(even though others tell me I haven't). Thank you to all for their knowledge, insite, opinions, and expierences with audio, and most of all for sharing your music selections and suggestions, Because for me IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC.

New music for me from your suggestions.

Luka Bloom -- Review from Kruppy The Turf album is outstanding not a week goes by I don't listen to at least one track, but usually the whole album.

Dead Can Dance -- Cherian recommendation and review,I like them, proof I'm mellowing out

Joe McQueen and Friends -- Sugarmedia recommendation, Ten At 86, liked it.

Susan Wong -- Another Cherian recommendation, great recording, music not my cup of tea but the wife liked it.

Nickel Creek -- Robin review, nice recording, to country for me

Amanda McBroom -- Audiostone review, I liked this one, more proof I'm mellowing out

Patricia Barber -- Wardsweb review, I live in Chicago never heard of her until I was on this site, go figure

Porcupine Tree -- Jonfo recommendation. Liked both Albums I picked up. Surround recordings are excellent. By the way Jonathan I refer to the wiring diagram of your system often. Unbelievable!!

Ours -- Sorry Tom, The lead singer is no Jeff Buckley, But the track sometimes ain't bad -- this one only cost 65 cents on ebay.

Casino Royal -- Actually heard a track member Burke brought to a Chicago Audio Society meeting before picking up the disc from classic records, good album, great recording

Don't have an album yet from Madeleine Peyroux, but as often as I here Robin and others talk about her I'm sure I will soon.

Just one more thing, I put in a review a while back in the other section of music reviews for Greg Brown's "The Poet Game" This is one of my all-time Favorites, as a middle aged man,(which many of us here are), this album really speaks to me, anyone going to the get-together in June that would like a copy let me know and I'll burn one.

Thanks to Tom for this wonderful site
Thanks to all for the last year
Thanks for listening
Wayne

Joey,
Got that CD ~ Time Without Consequence -- I may be old, but I still like to keep current ~ I believe that album came out last year.

Here's a couple of music suggestions from Chicago groups

The Bad Examples ~ Bad Is Beautiful -- early 90's I believe, great garage band music, don't know why this group never made it national, once saw them at the Riley's Daughter, small bar on a 115th and Pulaski

Poi Dog Pondering ~ Still around, Great concerts, usually small venues like The Vic and The Riviera

First of many I hope

I can't afford to get your disease, Hopeful I'll remain Joeyitis free

By the Way ML Gathering in Kansas, My wife doesn't want to be the only fillipino attending!! Hint Hint Nudge Nudge Say No More

Robin,
That Moody Blues on Sacd is excellent beats the Dts version by a mile.
Although I would listen to the Album on anything, one of my favorites

Great to be a part of this group, But I think we are the normal ones the rest of the world is crazy!!

I always say LIFE WITHOUT MUSIC IS LIKE SEX WITHOUT THE ORGASM.:D
(hope Tom doesn't edit that one out)
It's good but it could be better

Wayne,

It's great to have your personality around! Congrats on a years worth! I've always admired your room, clean, neat, uncluttered and well organized for the enjoyment of music and movies. I think it's the best way to get the family involved and share some part of that excitement this level of equipment brings.

Always seems like there's something to learn everytime this site is opened and the purusing begins. Sometimes I feel I can contribute othertimes I'm wrong. Nothing wrong with learning.

I'm starting to really like the Sunday Morning Music also. Among a few others, I've picked up a few recommended from this site including Porcupine Tree.

Wayne,
I'm glad you enjoy Turf. That has been one of my favorite disks for some time. Have you checked out any other Luka stuff? If I remember you also have Amsterdam. Have you tried anything else?

I also enjoy the Sunday Morning Listening posts and the old What's Spinning posts. I've noticed that we've had some common musical tastes.

Enjoy the next year.....

Bob

Wayne, time flies when you're having fun !! I agree, I think father "Tom" has put together a real nice 'community' here and I too am looking forward to meeting those folks that are able to make it to the Shindig this June in Lawrence. Who knows maybe Joey will get all the Chgo gang to highball on Amtrak down to KC !!

Wayne, congrats on a good year. Hopefully more great music and fun on the MLOC to experience in the years ahead

Hey Wayne,

yeah.. i was wondering if you got that "Ours" CD yet. His voice is pretty incredible, but their music doesn't really do anything for me. Maybe this is why nobody has ever heard of them. Oh well.

Glad to have you here. Happy Anny and I'm looking forward to meeting you in Kansas this summer!!

Tom.

Bob,
I've aquired eveything I could find of his, Amsterdam, The Acoustic Motorbike, Before Sleep Comes, Between The Mountain And The Moon, Innocence, and Riverside. All good stuff

I've noticed that we've had some common musical tastes.

I've told my wife on several occasions that you and I have very similar listening tastes, so whenever you chime in about music I pay attention.

Wayne,

Happy Anniversary. Seems like you've been here much longer than that, you are a fixture here to be sure. Always look forward to your posts and am humbled that one of the threads I'd started is one of your favorites (Sunday Morning Music). Here's to many more years of music!

Heartfelt Man-hugs from the Rocky Mountains,
Tim

A train, believe it or not I've never been on a train, jumped out of planes hundreds of times, been in helicopters, hot air ballons, motorcycles, etc., but never a train.

Had planned on driving down, but who knows, train may be the way to go.

See you in KC

Tim,
Look forward to meeting you and everyone else in KC.
On many occasions my Sunday Morning Music posts are really Very Late Saturday Night Posts that just happen to run into Sunday Morning.:D

Wayne,
Congrats on your one year anniversary. We are all better off for having you as a member of this group. Always enjoy your posts. Speaking of which, you need to pick up the pace. According to your post count, you are averaging less than one a day. This just will not do. :D

Just one more thing, I put in a review a while back in the other section of music reviews for Greg Brown's "The Poet Game" This is one of my all-time Favorites

Wayne, don't think that your words went unnoticed. Greg's deep baritone (when he chooses to) seduced me immediately and brought up Leonard Cohen's "Ten new Songs" in my mind - that one being 1 of the 10 albums to pack when headed to a desert island. I bought Greg's album off iTunes almost immediately after reading your review.

There's more.....

All right! Another obsessive fan! There are a few more to add to your list.....

The Barry Moore Years (2001): Songs from 1975 to 1986, a compilation of his early works with his finger plucking style before his tendonitis. Only available on his website, http://www.lukabloom.com

Keeper of the Flame (2000): All cover songs. I haven't listened to this one in a long time. I remember that it's not my favorite. I'll have to spin this one again soon to get a better feel for it.

Salty Heaven (1998): We named my daughter from the song Ciara (pronounced Kear-a not Sea-air-a, although we spell it Kyra)

Tribe (2007): Just released. I didn't even know this was out until this morning. Time to spend some money....

Thanks to all for the kind words.
Glad I could contribute in some small way.

Tonyc - I see your from Texas, James McMurtry Fan???

Lugano, Your right about Leonrd's voice, Funny how it's changed over the years.
Didn't really care for "Ten New Songs" musically, but the lyrics I feel were some of his best. Glad you liked "The Poet Game"

Kruppy, Looks like I have some shopping to do.
As Luka would say "Looking for songs, Looking for songs
