I don't want to be left out, nor do I want to be repeditive. They "the Summits" are growing on me, however my tastes are very modern. I ask everyone, would you buy this product if it doesn't "really fit" your room/ decor/ WAF/?/ whatever you want to call it. We have to trust ML that the sound will be there, but do you think some will be turned away by the aesthetics, and it will be too much for some?

Regarding the looks, keep in mind we are repeatedly looking at one shot of the Summit. We have not seen it in all black or black grill with a dark cherry veneer woofer box. I like the looks too.

That’s very true Longhorn we have only seen them in one color, but you know a box is still a box no matter what color you paint it.

I have been looking at the picture of the Summit for some time now and the look is growing on me, but I think the lines of the speaker would flow a whole lot better if they rotated the bass box 180 degrees. Rounding off the top edges and back edges of the bass box would help too.

Zip,I am sure we would all like to make a few changes here and there. I still would like to see a Dynaudio Contour like base, similar to the ones the big Dunlavy's used to have. The four little pegs or legs look out of place.

I bet when we walk into the our favorite audio store and see them for the first time, we will be stunned at how great the Summit looks. Just my opine.

Nothing Big, but on the Secrets of home theater and high fidelity website’s coverage of CES ’05 they had some info about the new summit with the same picture that was released to the Club.

Martin Logan shows the “Protégé” replacement speaker, the “Summit”, nicely crafted with an extruded aluminum “Ultra-Rigid” frame and a substantially reduced base module clad in beautiful wood veneers. The electrostatic speakers priced about $10,000.00.

You do know that if Gilbert has anything to do with the Summit it will come it pink too. :D

Thanks Jeff

We have just decided to offer a new colour for our toys today. The name of the new colour is "piggy pink". It's the same pink I painted the sub woofer amps for my e2. It is almost like the pink Nick did to the Summit.

ML didn't ask me for their colour choice, so I don't think they are going to offer piggy pink for their speakers. It's just too bad. :p :D :)

I think that the decision to go with a solid billet of extruded aluminum as a the stator frame is a fantastic idea. ML is looking more and more expensive, like the Krells and Wilsons and still keeping the prices at the 10k mark. I think this is going to be an incredible product. I don't see how anyone would want a Watt Puppy or Maxx after they hear and see a product like the Summit at this price. Wilson (to me) has nothing on them in the finishes/construction department anymore. This is a hell of alot of speaker for the money.

Picture 4 of these summits with piano black cabinets and brushed aluminum stators showcased with a Krell KAV system in a stainless steel and glass rack. Add a big tastefully done room in light colors with an onwall 70" plasma in stainless steel. Just stunningg...

Stay tuned as I am currently trying to upgrade my Statment panels, EXOS, and passive x over.

Regards,
Gerren

How would one describe the look and the cabinet design of the new Summit, uumm I would say (Tobacco PIPE)
A while ago I stumbled across an article that described the design of Martin Logan Speakers as aesthetic state of Art linking and comparing pictures of each Speaker, from Statement to Aoen to beautiful buildings and bridges around the world. It would be nice if someone could help find this article and post it.
I was drawn like many others to ML by its look before I even heard it. I know some people will say what matters is the way it sounds, and that the new cabinet will grow on you. I for one totally agree with JayNewt comment (a forum member).
I conducted my own poll, I showed 50 people the pictures of the new summit and Prodigy, My question was if you were to chose between the two speakers in the picture which one will you pick? only 18 out of 50 picked the new summit, the rest went for the old design.
Please dont get me wrong I am not saying that they should not have embark on a new look/design, I appreciate what ML's are trying to do, a forward vision in this competitive environment.
Radical YES, Beauty NOT. I know you cant please everyone but could they have done better and put a little bit of thought into the new design and make the cabinet a bit rounded YES.

Hi,
I believe the article you mention was written by our own president, Jason. You can find it here:

Hope this helps,

My Article on the New ML Design Is Almost Finished

I am at the finishing touches of my article on the newer ML design (focused primarily on the Summit) which should be up by next week.It took a little longer because my computer crashed just a couple of days ago and I was unable to log on or do anything. It was very frustrating because I had a lot of material that I had to recover. However, this piece is almost done. The article will continue to address some of the design elements behind the new look. Stay tuned. For my previous article on the ML design you can go into the Press releases/Reviews & Articles section in the Main Menu.:)
