I was just curious to know how many here have Blue-Ray Disc players and which discs were great for HT? I bought the BDP-95FD from Pioneer and it came with Dave Mathews and Tim Reynolds in concert at Radio City in NY and so far it is my favorite. It looks and sounds great on my setup. I have about 7 more but I wanted some ideas on what other discs people here think are great on their Martin Logans

I have a BL player(PS3). My list of great BL movies include All look and sound good.

1) Cars
2) 2001 A space odyssey
3) Underworld
4) Planet Earth
5) Blade Runner
6) Close Encounters of the Third kind
7) 300

Enjoy.

An older 60GB PS3 for playing region A discs and a current 40GB PS3 for playing region B. As for discs, Planet Earth is one of my favorites. Or were you asking about music BRs?

I'm using a Denon 2500BTCI, but also have a Sony S300. The Pioneer BDP-95FD is an excellent Blu-ray player, congrats!:)

Here's a list of one's I consider the "best of the best" for PQ and sound:

Hitman
AVP-Requiem
Shoot Em' Up
Spider-man 3
Live Free or Die Hard
Ratatouille
Planet Earth (BBC version)

i have the samsung P1400 and really like it. to me, blu-ray seems more of an improvement over SD dvds than was HD-DVD. the upscaling of SD dvds is also very nice, equal, perhaps even better than what i saw with my panny RP-82.

for blu-ray i have

corpsebride
2001
casino royale
kingdom of heaven
blade runner

and have rented
cars
pirates of the caribean
meet the robinsons
chicken little

I'm using a Panasonic BD30 player.

Cars
Spiderman 3
I Robot
Pirates 3

All A+ for demo discs. :D

I have a PS3, Samsung BD-P1200 and Denon DVD 3800BDCI along with ~150 Blu-rays, thus far.

Some of the best PQ/AQ

Apocalypto
Ratatouille
Casino Royale
Fifth Element (remastered)
Kingdom of Heaven
Black Hawk Down

Another PS3 (40GB) user here. the regular updating of the firmware is great, as is the fact that it is very responsive (the power of the cell processor at work :) )

Favorite content is Planet Earth

A Relavant Hijack . . .

Oh dear oh dear,
I'm one of those HD-DVD losers :( .
I notice some of the above listed movies are in my library also, with my two all time favorites being Blade Runner and 2001. Blade Runner is a 5 disc set with the director's cut and plays well but my copy of 2001 is problematic and a big dissapointment. It dispays poorly in the dark scenes and/or transitions from light to dark.
So, for all you owners of the same but on blue ray, how does your copy of 2001 render on the screen? Flawless, anticipated artifacts or garbage?

...

Don't worry, I was an early HD-DVD adopter (XA1 on 8/06) and held out on BR until fall of '07, when gaming needs drove me to get a PS3.

As soon as the war ended this year, I actually ran out and bought an A35 for the media room to ensure I can still play HD-DVD content for along time.

But at least the silly war is voer and we can move on.

Bring on the great audio BR discs

Beakman, I too bought an HDDVD player and I am not sorry. I frankly think the quality of the two formats is roughly the same and my HDDVDs still look as great as ever. I also bought betamax, HDCD,SACD, and DVDA so I must just be a sucker. But this time I hedged my bet by buying a Blu Ray player as well. A PS3 in the home theater and a Panasonic BD-10A in the bedroom.

To ensure that my library of HD DVD's would be playable for many years, I also got a back up player (another Toshiba XA2). I am also glad that the war is over, but I do miss HD DVD. It was an excellent format that offered so many things, and all at a much lower price point.

Yes, I'm with you, I also have no regrets jumping into HD DVD. And to my eyes the PQ and sound is identical to Blu-ray. And as long as HD DVD titles are available to buy (including imports), I will add any that I don't already have. But I also enjoy Blu-ray, and all those awesome DTS-HD MA soundtracks.:) So I feel for me it's a win win situation as I enjoy both.:)

Thanks everyone for your comments back to my post. It seems that a lot of you have said Planet Earth and I think that will be my next buy. I was thinking of Hellboy and Black Hawk Down also. I heard that The Golden Compass was really good too. Thanks everyone and I hope that we can keep this going as a reference point for reviews. Here is my list:

310 To Yuma
I Am Legend
Casino Royale
Shoot 'Em Up
Pirates/ At World's End
Flyboys (just bought and haven't seen yet)
Justin Timberlake in Concert (My Wife's)

And my Favorite is still as I said in my first post. Dave Mathews

PS3 user.

Films - these are starting to spoil me, especially on the projector screen. I've found that I've shifted my DVD watching to the plasma.

Concerts - Chris Botti Live (I reviewed the DVD in the review site), Pat Metheny Group The Way Up, and believe it or not, Celine Dion A New Day are all great. But the best for me: Legends of Jazz Showcase.

Of course, games are awesome too. GT5 (only the Prologue version is out, but it rocks), NBA2K8 (great crowd and dunk sounds), Assassin's Creed (total immersion) among my favorites.

Adding a Blu-Ray player to my HT system is high on my list. When I do I want to utilize the high rez audio lossless audio that the newer ones have. However, are there any models that play the HD audio from the player as in 5.1 rca outputs or does it require the new verions HDMI 1.3 standard with a pre-pro that can decode the new HD-Audio formats?

Another PS3 user here. My favs so far are:

1. Planet Earth

2. No Country for Old Men

3. Apocalypto

4. Casino Royale

Sony BDP-S500, the only disappointing part is that DTS-HD MA is not bitstreamed out but down converted to DTS 5.1 and output.

Cars
Ratatouille
Blade Runner
Casino Royale

Killer sound effects
MI-III
Hitman
The Condemned

Picked up PS3 about a month ago after the format war was officially over.
Currently have 8 titles, 4 movies and 4 concerts.
Haven't had a chance to watch them all, but what I have watched I liked.

Watched so far
Crash
Chris Botti Live
Legends of Jazz with Ramsey Lewis
Dave Mathews and Tim Reynolds Live at Radio City

Kids watched Spiderman 3 and said it was awesome.

I currently have an HD DVD player and am waiting for the new Panasonic BD50 to come out or the new Pioneer. There's dozens and dozens of discs of great content out there right now.

Hey WB what did you think about Dave Mathews and Tim Reynolds Live at Radio City? I loved it and I have watched it at least 3 or 4 times already. I wasn't a fan of Dave Mathews and didn't really listen to anything of his that wasn't coming out of the radio in my car. But now I want to see him in concert after that video. Also Tim Reynolds was great. So what did you think?
