Some members must have first hand experience with Stax headphones. The search facility finds too many threads which contain mere references to Stax, hence my posting.

If I do buy I am probably headed towards the SR-303. But which driver? The three available sets bundle the 303 with a SRS-3020, SRS-3030, SRS-3050II, respectively.

Can you recommend one over the others?

I forgot to read the rest of your post, about the driver. I use the SRM-006t, but I've heard the SS amps as well and they are still great. Nothing quite beats 'stats over your ears!

For me, it would depend on how much I was going to use them.

I've used the "budget" Stax SRD-4's (for +20 years) when recording records to tape. You can hear everything (including subway rumble) at low sound levels. I have heard somethings via the head phones and then listened for it on my CLS's!

I also liked the fact that the light weight SRD-4's do not block external sounds. Wish I could still buy the SRD-4!!!! ($150, in 1978 or so)
