But then, I drive Subaru's and not Lexus. Not racking up >$10K year in depreciation is a great way to fund A/V addictions

We all make choices on where to put our disposable income, and having a top notch A/V system was high on mine since I was a kid.

I fell into high end audio when I blew a tweeter on my wifes speakers when I was an intern (1984-85). Bought a pair, brought them home and the old receiver lacked the power to run them. Since then, 10 pairs of speakers, 6amps, 6 preamps, 3 turntables, 6 tonearms, ten cartridges,4 phono preamps, 8 CD players, 4 CD transports, 4 DACS, 6 "universal" players (now of course, all obsolete!), 4 AV preamps, 4 AV amps, 11 TVs, 2 electronic crossovers, an HD DVD player, 3 Sirius receivers.. and this is all stuff I remember fondly! The oldest piece of equipment in my system is an old original Magnum Dynalab FT-101-still the best sounding FM tuner I ever heard which I bought in 1987 (I have 4 other FM tuners as well). Add this all up and if I were my wife I would have divorced me by now! Oh, and enough wire to power a small community, and numerous VCR's. Tweaks too embarassing to mention! OH GOD, I could have been analyzed twice!

WOW that is a LOT of money! But if I had bought all that stuff new or at least at retail the cost would have been over $54k! Much of the gear was new, but I don't think I paid "retail" for anything other than the Descent.
