OK, I'll play (I hope the wife doesn't see this).
My system is only 2 channel right now, AV stuff will come later after I've built a dedicated room. About 40% of my system is comprised of things I got on Audiogone (especially cables), otherwise it may have been considerably more - yikes! Audiogone stuff indicated with *

VPI Aries/JMW 10.5 Tonearm - $3900.00
Grado Statement Cartridge - $2200.00
Aesthetix Rhea Phonostage - $3500.00
Anthem CD1 CD Player - $1200.00
Esoteric DV-50S Universal Player - $4000.00
Dodson Audio DA-217 II DAC - $2200.00*
BAT VK-31SE Pre-amp - $5300.00
BAT VK-6200 Power Amp (4 modules) - $5800.00*
Martin Logan ReQuests - $4200.00
REL Stadium II Subwoofer - $2800.00
PS Audio PS-600 Power Conditioner - $2400.00*
Salamander Audio Racks - $600.00
Musical Fidelity X-CAN & X-PSU - $380.00
Sennheiser HD-580 Headphones - $230.00
60G iPod - $300.00
Synergistic Research interconnects - $3600.00*
Synergistic Reserach Power Cables - $600.00*
Synergistic Research Master Control Center - $400.00*
Solidsteel Amp Stand - $350.00
Bright Star Audio Aeries Base - $400.00
Misc. Black Diamond Racing cones & pucks - $900.00

Grand Total - $45,260.00

Sounds obscene when I read it here. I've probably got almost twice that tied up in LP's, CD's and SACD's. I've got a seperate writer on the home insurance to cover the stereo and music collection.

Crossed the six digit mark a few years ago, and that's just equipment, no furniture or room costs.

But then, I drive Subaru's and not Lexus. Not racking up >$10K year in depreciation is a great way to fund A/V addictions :D

We all make choices on where to put our disposable income, and having a top notch A/V system was high on mine since I was a kid.

I fell into high end audio when I blew a tweeter on my wifes speakers when I was an intern (1984-85). Bought a pair, brought them home and the old receiver lacked the power to run them. Since then, 10 pairs of speakers, 6amps, 6 preamps, 3 turntables, 6 tonearms, ten cartridges,4 phono preamps, 8 CD players, 4 CD transports, 4 DACS, 6 "universal" players (now of course, all obsolete!), 4 AV preamps, 4 AV amps, 11 TVs, 2 electronic crossovers, an HD DVD player, 3 Sirius receivers.. and this is all stuff I remember fondly! The oldest piece of equipment in my system is an old original Magnum Dynalab FT-101-still the best sounding FM tuner I ever heard which I bought in 1987 (I have 4 other FM tuners as well). Add this all up and if I were my wife I would have divorced me by now! Oh, and enough wire to power a small community, and numerous VCR's. Tweaks too embarassing to mention! OH GOD, I could have been analyzed twice!

I have tried not to think about this but lets see:

$18,000 Prodigy, Ascent, Script, Theater, Descent (new cost = $23,000)
$5300 Pioneer Elite PRO 510 (soon to be Sony 70" at about the same $$$$$ cost but an extra $2k in Salamander stand=$6500)
$8000 Rotel Gear (amps, Pre/Pro, DVD player) Pioneer Elite CD changer, Rega TT, Sony DVD changer, Pioneer Elite LD player, Pioneer Elite Cassette deck
$1200 Wiring for the system
$3200 RGPC gear (Substation, Pole Pig, 400 Pro, 400 Mk II, 400 new = $6800)
$325 Pronto 6000 Color (new $750)
$55 DLO Home Dock Delux (new $125)
$37,000 Grand Total (or close to it...)

WOW that is a LOT of money! But if I had bought all that stuff new or at least at retail the cost would have been over $54k! Much of the gear was new, but I don't think I paid "retail" for anything other than the Descent.

OK, here's a modest system in Canadian $ (Do I translate to US?)

ML Clarity: $3,000
ML Vignette: $800
Sunfire Super Jr Sub: $1,050
B&W M-1 (x2): $500
Rotel 1067 AVR: $2,900
Marantz 7600 Universal Disc Player: $1,000
Monster 3500 Pro Power: $300 (super deal on this)
Sony 32" Bavia XBR LCD TV : $2,100
Cables (Nordost Speaker and key analog interconnects, AudioQuest Power, Monster THX1000 for video): $1,500

Total: approx. $12,650.00 and add Canadian sales taxes at 14% (was 15% for most of the purchases)

Plus equipment not in current setup and I'm sure I'm missing some small stuff.. Nordost Pulsar Points:3 sets not used in curent setup $450, Rotel 1060 DVD Player $1,100, DLO Dock for iPod, Sony PS2, custom made cabinet, miscellaneous cables)

Does this take me over the US $10K

I think you may be missing an important point. It is not how much you spend but how wisely you spend what you have. :D

Jeff:eek:

Mr 'Z', you are wise beyond your years, I mean ears, whatever !!
