Decided I'm gonna buy a rowing machine. Seems the Concept 2 brand is favored amongst real oarsmen (which I'm not), but a more home-friendly design seems to be the WaterRower, which even comes in WAF-friendly wood frames.

Just wondering if anybody has experience with the WaterRower, and how you like it. I tried one today, and it seems well made, smooth running, and a good workout. Another plus is that they will soon have optional internet connectivity so you can actually compete in real time with others!

I particularly like their pic illustrating how quiet it is! :D

Hmmm, the RowPerfect looks interesting, probably does a great job emulating actual rowing. However, I watched the video of their new prototype, and it's waaay too noisy...

As someone who tends to fall out of canoes, the WaterRower seems more stable, and quieter too. My wife even likes the wood frame, so I think that'll be the one for us. Too bad it doesn't have an optional Bubinga finish! :D

Yes, the RowPerfect apparently even has a loosely attached seat to simulate the instability of being in a real boat and make sure your posture is correct!

Why does quiet matter? Are you intending to row and listen to the Summits at the same time?

Hell yes!! Now, if I could only position it in my sweet spot :D.

I went ahead and ordered the Oxbridge (Cherry) model today. Got a great price online, $200 less than my local dealer, no tax, free shipping! Including the cellist pictured above was a $1000 upgrade, so I regretfully passed :D.

I rowed for a year in college...and we had a ton of Concept 2s, and some antiquated "technique" type machines... Concept 2s are definitely loud...but nothing some loud 80s rock or Metallica's "Enter Sandman" couldn't drown out ;) Let us know how the water rower works out...especially sound wise.
