I just purchased my first pair of Martin Logan Aerius I speakers and now require an amp. Currently I am trying to decide between the B&K 125.2, the NAD 218 or an Acurus 200.

Not having any previous experience with electrostatic speakers, I am looking for assistance/guidance. If anyone has any recommendations of a better matching amp, without breaking the bank, for the speakers I would really appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you.

Hi Nick,

look at the specs for the Aerius i in the "MartinLogan Product Timeline" Section. The Aerius i can dip down to 1.7 ohms. Make sure the amp you get can handle that. The older Logans like the Aerius are a little harder to drive than the newer models.

Personally, I'd look at a Sunfire amp. They are a good match to electrostatics and used ones are relatively inexpensive.

Good Luck and let us know how you make out.

Tom.

Thank you Tom.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will add this to the list of amps that I am looking at.

I had noticed in one of the previous links someone was asking about experieinces with NAD separates but there were never any responses.

I would suggest a B&K amp, but would go with someting a little more powerful than the 125.2. You can pick up good used B&K amps that put out 200 watts @ 8 ohms and higher @ 4 ohms for decent prices. B&K amps have a "warm" sound which in my opinion is a good match with Martin Logans

I previously had a Acurus A200x3 powering my Aerius i's. More than enough power for HT use but not that refined for picky audiophile listening....

If you can pick up a good used 100 watt tube amp go for it, you won't be sorry.
