I'm lucky to be living near Austin, TX as it has some great record stores. I've noticed that even Waterloo Records has greatly expanded its already good record area, especially the new (current) records area. They seem to get many of the quality albums, too such as many of the re-releases and Japanese and European imports, too. I haven't seen any of the 45rpm Blue Note albums, but have seen the MoFi releases, Analogue Production, Blue Note, Warner, Capitol, etc. They carry records from just about every genre. The size of the new album area has doubled within the last year to about an area of 120 - 200 sq. ft. That estimate is for the albums in the bins only, not the floor space.

Blues albums, as well as local artists/Texas artists albums are especially well represented at Antone's Records, also located on Austin's drag, Guadalupe St.

I know of at least six other independent records stores in Austin which sell new and used albums. Of course, we also have the chain stores, which now carry some albums (Hastings, Best Buy, etc.) We even have Piranha Records about three miles from my house, in Round Rock. They're mostly heavy metal, but also carry new Jazz and popular albums.

So, what is the record buying experience where you live? Are there many good stores, or do you rely on the internet stores? If you have any great record stores, please name them so that I/We can visit when in your area.

Good idea!

Here is a list of those that I have visited and bought from several times here in the Georgia area.

Wax N Facts:

Audio Alternative:

Audio Atlanta:
http://audioatlanta.com/ (Around the corner from them is an antique store which has many used records and a few new ones. Sorry couldn't think of the name, but is only about 50 yards or less from audio atlanta.)

Wuxtry Records (Two locations):

Schoolkids Records: (This is just a phone number and address. It is within walking distance of the Athens, Ga Wuxtry Records mentioned above.)

Circle Sky Records:

If I think of others then I will add them to this list. These are all in the Atlanta area or Athens, Ga which is a college town about 70 miles outside of Atlanta that is worth visiting. If someone else who lives in Georgia has some other sources please share because I would love to visit them.

Cool topic!!

When I make it into Nashville, I make sure I allow time to swing by Grimey's! Once I wandered in and the place was packed. Didn't know what was going on but a few minutes later in came a little equipment for a setup, so I hung around. Within a short time I was standing on the front row of the very limited packed house, listening from just about 4-5 feet away from BR-549 play a short set, celebrating a new release!

Nice selection of CD's and vinyl!
