The Townshed Pre and Bel Canto power combo was extremely soft and made the panels disappear instantly. It was ideal for long listening. Very tube like sound. Soft and mushy.
The Dac used was electrocompaniet - then used that dac, which has a buil-in pre, with Electrocompaniet monos. Did not like the sound at all, extremely bright and aggressive.
i think ideally one should have two racks - one with a detailed, bright dac, another with a soft one, one with an aggressive SS amp, and another with an amp with a soft tube like sound. Ditto for cables. And then mix and match depending what time of the day, modd, and song you are listening to. There seems to be no one answer for all music we listen to anyway
