    PrimaLuna Integrated

Fair enough 😄 I was thinking of ML being effectively a Canadian company these many years.

In which case, what are you doing on a Martin Logan forum? 😉

ML Aerius upper section does not play

There’s effectively a taper on the holding slots, so they can be held very firmly. To get mine off, I laid the speakers down on their backs and it took a few good whacks with a rubber mallet to get them to move.

Which Amp to buy? The most frequently asked question on this site. READ THIS!!

Some years ago I bought a complete Linn HT system (Class D). A not inexpensive system. Paired it with my then Aerius is for a few months, before deciding that they were not a happy combination. They did however work very well indeed with Linn's own speakers. Switched to Spires recently, and...

    UK British Masterpiece owners...ESL 11a, 13a, 15a

Yep. Plenty of us around. I bought a pair of Aerius i s in 2001 and never looked back. I had to relegate them to our music room for some years, as they really didn't get on with the Linn amps in my living room HT system. But this summer, I switched to an Arcam processor, plus Michell Monobloc...

Which Amp to buy? The most frequently asked question on this site. READ THIS!!

Experiment - I’d seen a number of posts to the effect that a) it actually does make a difference to the bass response and b) leaves a dedicated channel for driving the panels. My conclusion was that it did make a difference, mostly to to panel sound. However, the bigger improvement is from...

Which Amp to buy? The most frequently asked question on this site. READ THIS!!

No, bi-amp - the Arcam usefully has software-controlled bi-amping which allows you to assign unused amp channels to bi-amp the main speakers.

    Quad Amp with Vantages

Resurrecting a very old post, flagged to me when I just posted a recommendation for Alectos in the 'which is the best amp' thread. Having just swapped in a pair of recently upgraded (250wRMS/8ohm) Alecto II monoblocs in place of a Mark Levinson 331 (which was merely brilliant), I can confidently...

Which Amp to buy? The most frequently asked question on this site. READ THIS!!

Slightly left-field wrt most of the comments in this thread, but I've just had a revelatory experience with amps for my Spires. I'd started with bi-amping from my Arcam AVR20 receiver and the sound was excellent - great staging and transparency, but perhaps just a little harshness in the vocals...

    Iso Acoustics Gaia 2 on Summit's ??

According to my calculations, the Gaia IIIs ought to be fine with my Spires (IIRC, 27kg each speaker). They also have active electronics, so I may have the same issue of needing the 3/8-16 adapters of the right length

    Martin Logan esl 11a parings

I’m a forty year Apple user, and was attached to the Advanced Technology Group at Cupertino, so my credentials are pretty good there. But Apple Music? Shocking interface, continuous up-sell, quality issues only just being addressed now and poor integration beyond its own ecosystem. I went...

    Aerius I Trim Removal

That kept happening to mine: i eventually took the oak trims off (tap downwards with rubber mallet) and found that the 3M tape below the stators still had its top plastic protection strip on - after nearly 20 years! Peeled that off, replaced stators and trim, and no more slippage.

    Mark Levinson recommendation for Spires

Very good points about the cap replacement, thanks - the 331 I’m looking at had them replaced 3 years ago - I’ve asked about the others, but it sounds like, all things being equal, I might be better off with a 331 with caps that have been replaced vs a 334 or 431 of unknown provenance.

    Mark Levinson recommendation for Spires

    Thanks - will double check

    Mark Levinson recommendation for Spires

I’m looking at (at various prices) the Mark Levinson 331, 334 and 431 for my new-to-me Spires - opinions from those who’ve used these combinations or similar would be most welcome!

Moving from Aerius i to Spire

Haven’t quite got the room to bring them out that far, but they’re about 2m from each side wall, which definitely helps - I fact I ended up with them further apart and with less toe in than I was expecting to need - imaging is superb

    Martin Logan Shower Cleaning PDF

I’ve just bought a pair of Spires in the UK for just over $3000 - and are a massive upgrade over my 2001Aerius i s. So moving forward a generation or two does seem to make a big difference.

Moving from Aerius i to Spire

Much the same - currently set up with the back of the panel around 65cm from the wall, in a 6.7*5.5m room, so I've a little negotiating space to move them out a bit. Getting very good imaging however, but I've only just started experimenting with the setup

Moving from Aerius i to Spire

Here we go - i and my excellent neighbour (speakers wouldn’t fit my car!) drove over to Elite Audio UK in Pittenweem (yes, that is a real place) and spent a good couple of hours auditioning the Spires, with everything from Tallis to Morcheeba via London Grammar. Was sold by the end of the first...

Moving from Aerius i to Spire

Slightly less than 1/3, and appear well looked after - going for a listen at the weekend
