HIT HIM!!!!!!!!!!!

And they did for 50 games!

Yeah, as though HCG helped him hit and field and run. I take the Libertarian line here and say if athletes want to take these things, let them! You still have to do the work to be an elite athlete. All the drugs in the world won't help me hit a fastball, or play in the NBA, a lack of talent prevented that. Another example of the American preoccupation with drugs, IMO.

Explain that to Hank Aaron, Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays, and all the greats that relied on raw talent. All their records and stats are being broken & tainted by guys that don't have that talent and are supplementing their lack of talent with HGH. If you're ok with that, then there needs to be a whole new category created for the HGH age. With a big ol' asterisk by each of their names.

It's not easy, if it was then everyone would be doing it.

Pitchers have also been found to be using these same substances as the hitters, giving them advantages pitchers used to not have over Aaron, Dimaggio, etc. Just like there are improved training techniques, surgeries and medical treatments, improved equipment, and vastly improved scouting and video archives. Though there has been a reletively significant documented increase in the number of homeruns in the recent past, I think things have a way of balancing themselves out.

I almost agree with risabet to the point that the drugs could be allowed because it doesn't actually increase their talent. But allowing them essentially ecourages them, which would lead to nearly all young athletes using some performance enhancing substance to just believe they have a chance against everyone else that it already using them. And only bad things could result from that.

This assumes that they weren't using anything and that is only conjecture on our part. Baseball wasn't testing and the effects of steroidal hormones were known. Ground up testicles (ugh!) were being used by cyclists as early as the 1940's.

Manny was accused of using HGC, which is not a growth hormone but a pregnancy hormone that when used in males stimulates certain testicular cells to synthesize testosterone. The intratesticular testosterone is necessary for sperm formation. In males it is typically used for fertility treatment.

Manny claimed he used it for erectile dysfunction though that seems pretty pathetic in the age of Viagra and Cialis.
