    Modding of CD/SACD Players

In another thread on the MLO site, there has been some discussion about amplifiers and modified players. Allen Wright of VSE stopped in to talk about his new amplifiers and the discussions about modified players also came up. Some asked Allen about his mods and he responded: So I will start...

    The Store

Discussion awhile back about an audio store in MD that seemed to be on everyone's avoid list in the past couple of years due to their bad experiences. Heard the main store on the corner is shutting down and they are moving into another space in the same plaza - much smaller. Have not stopped...

    MD/DC/VA/DE Get Together

Y'all.... I have been waiting to see if Jeff Z will come back into town due to his work for the next get together. Not sure when he will make it, so I have thought we should just start planning for an April time frame for a get together at my place in Maryland. Remember Twich (Dave) is also...

Audio Reviews and Reviewers, Modded Players, and then some :)

This has been a very good discussion with Tonepub (Jeff), but I thought I should move it from Mitt's thread (moderators - I hope this is ok with you) on vinyl setup. Sorry for the left-turn Mitt. Exactly and it was my point for the NAIM - you bought it because you liked it not anything else...

What is wrong with this forum???

Forums will always have disagreement as typing is never as good as talking in person with inflection and facial expressions. Hence there will always be confusing and misunderstandings from text postings. People take this as a personal attack and just cannot seem to move on ignoring the others...

The date is a Saturday and would be the usual 12pm-5pm or so type session. Jeff...

DTB300 and Jeff Z - Mini Get Together

Jeff Z was in town for work and fortunately we were able to get our schedules together for him to stop over to listen to some tunes, enjoy some snacks, and dinner with the family. It all came together at the last minute, so getting news out to other MD/VA/DC folks was almost impossible. Maybe...

    Amps - Peak Output Current

There always seems to be a lot of discussion here are using an amp with high Peak Output Current as one of the stats. Here is an interesting read from Charles Hansen of Ayre acoustics on this issue: http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/amp/messages/11/118044.html One of the best things he says...

    The Magic Bullet....

I am amazed at these types of posts I see on a daily basis.... Over, and over, and over, I continually see posts on audio forums from people looking for a recommendation of which component to purchase. Now, I know I have asked what others think, as we all like to see what opinions are. It is...

    Looking for that new Processor....

In a previous thread here, I asked about processor recommendations, and why they sounded better. Got a few replies, mostly just recomendations and no comparisons. So I have started to try to get out and audition some equipment. Wish I could afford something like the Meridian's or Theta's but...

In case some of you forgot....

I know some of us do this on a regular basis, but some others here may be new to the routine. When daylight savings time changes, I always make sure to change out the batteries in my Smoke Alarms throughout the home. What does this have to do with Audio??? Well at the same time, I also go...

    Room Acoustic Treatments

In the audio world today, room treatment is one of the hottest topics. With it being such a new "thing" to most audiophiles, we are usually very skeptical about proceeding forward. From my experience, it has been one of the best "cost vs performance" additions in my setup. But the question...

    Strathmore in Bethesda, MD

I have been to this place many times to hear the NSO and BSO play. I have also been to the Kennedy Center here, and the Strathmore is a much better place for acoustics and listening to music. I finally found a picture of the place from the back of the stage (seats are behind and above the...

    Looking at new Pre/Pro

Been thinking about replacing my main stream HT receiver with either an Arcam AVP-700 or something else. I always see great things said about the Meridian 568, but I have seen other models like the 568.2 etc. Also hearing one of the Meridians like the 568 before purchase is almost impossible...

    Michael Bishop and Telarc Records

As you know from previous posts of mine, I have always enjoyed the Telarc recordings, especially their new SACD MCH Classical pieces. Well, at the Grammy Awards, Telarc and Michael Bishop (who I have also talked about here) won a Grammy for the Britten/Elgar CD (SACD) for best Engineered...
