    System #536 (CLS II)

Thanks, Tim. I enjoyed your thread about the evolution of your system, building a dedicated listening room yourself. Quite an accomplishment, you should be proud.

Thank you very much! Anybody listen to open reel on their ML?

    System #536 (CLS II)

The same with mine, for a while several years ago I added a pair of Decca ribbon tweeters placed on brackets. Added a bit of transient detail.

I agree completely about the Spicas, John Bau was the designer and certainly built a classic. It's tough to find a pair that hasn't needed tweeter or driver replacements. The characteristics of the crossover components were individually matched to the driver specifications.

Thank you, I'm enjoying it very much. This is the first time I've been able to have all of my records and tapes in the same location as the equipment. It's great to be able to pick out a record and not have to go into another room to hear it. In our previous house the listening room was too...

    Hello from Maryland

Hello, I'm using amplifiers that I built based on the Altec 1570B tube amplifiers that use a directly heated triode 811A tubes in a push-pull output. Unfortunately I have expensive audio tastes but a working man's (now retired) budget, so I have to figure out how to do things myself with help.

    Hello from Maryland

Hi Brad, It's difficult to add anything to what has already been said about these speakers. Their freedom from coloration, superb transient response, clarity of sound and feeling of depth make listening a joy. Granted care with room placement and matching associated equipment are important, but...

Examining CLS II and IIa crossovers

Hello Jonathan, Thanks for your comment. I've completed one of the speakers, directly connected the speaker wire to the PCB. Changed the "soft/flat" switch to go from II to IIa crossover. Replaced the fuse holder on the power supply board and generally cleaned all the necessary connections. Now...

Examining CLS II and IIa crossovers

Hello, The version I have (and enjoy very much) is the II that has been partially converted to the IIa version by the factory. Since I'm going to do the direct speaker wire connection to the PCB I thought I would examine the two crossovers. There appear to be two differences. One is the removal...

    New to Martin Logan Club

Hello Don, Excellent choice in speakers, I have the CLSIIa and have enjoyed them thoroughly! I used them for about a dozen years before I added the Sound Anchor speaker stands. They made a significant difference and was well worth the effort. Welcome to the Martin Logan Club! Ken

Hello, Here are some photos of the amplifiers I'm building. They are classic Altec 1570B units that I've stripped down to bare chassis and am overhauling. I'm trying to get the point-to-point wiring as nice as i can make it. The first shot is the top of the chassis showing the black textured...

Hello, Now that is cool, having a friend who has a railroad! I model the Erie Lackawanna, circa 60's, in n-scale. But there's nothing to compare with real trains. Very cool! I have a print of a Monet painting of the Paris train station on the wall behind the turntable. Regards, Ken

Hello Zaphod, Thanks for the warm welcome! Yes, I'm using a venerable c-j MV75a-1 that I've thrown a few new parts in over the years. I tend to keep audio gear for many years and work to optimize it with the rest of the system. I've found that the KT90 output tubes works well, in that amplifier...
