Why We Love Mono Block Amplifiers So Much?

How much (or little) current do we really need?

Not overkill in my book. Those are darn nice amps.

As noted in my post above, one needs an amp with high current outputs, the FPB 650's sure qualify.

Thinking back to all of the various amplifiers that have done duty running my ReQuests, I recall favorable results from amps with ratings as low as 35 wpc and great results at around 100~150 watts. I've always felt the M/L's were very forgiving in terms of amplification.
What the 650's did for us is add a depth to the music we had not experienced on our system before. The Krells are big, heavy, and power hungry but sonically they're great performers. Makes me wonder how much power it takes to achieve perfection....

With my ROTEL RB-1090 is kind of a mono block as it has two totally separate power amplifiers and two independent power supplies, each with its own 1.25kVA custom-made transformer that just share the same chassis and powercord.

I'm afraid to know... I wouldn't want to tempt myself. When I was stationed in Japan (mid 80s) I had the chance to buy some Accuphase gear on the cheap in the Navy Exchange and I should've, but of course didn't know any better.... Oh well.. Maybe SOMEDAY.
