My father in law recently bought a pair of ML's and is trying to finish his HT room.

We bought a JL 12W7 and made a box to specs ourselves.

The problem is that the 1000 watt Dayton Amplifier goes into protect mode frequently when a large bass feed is given to it. I just think the speaker needs a bigger/better amp. This is what we have now...

Do you guys have any subwoofer amp suggestions at a reasonable price range? I do not think he is looking for the best here. Just an amp that will be able to give the speaker what it needs without going into protect.

Thanks,
Dominick

Outlaw has a sale on their monoblocks, which is what I am using for my sub.

Are you using any of the EQ on that amp?
If you are using too much boost you could be causing the problem that way.
Try setting all to flat and see if the issue still occurs.

I had used this amp

powered 3 adire audio Shiva 12" drivers without breaking a sweat.
It is marketed for bass-shakers, yet worked very well for sub duty.
The only negative was turn-on thump.

JL makes some amps for their in-wall subs that would do the trick. I do not know if they market them separately, but if you called and asked nicely, they might deal with you. :) 1000W or 2000W. Take your pick.

You know,
now that I think about it, the setting are all to flat I think, but I could back them off a little still. Maybe I will try that first.

Thanks guys,
Dominick
