I've been playing around with cabling and have found a synergistic mixture. I was running old AQ Midnights for the woofer and Tara Labs Quantum II for the stat panel on my Sequel II's, with Transparent RCA's. I upgraded it all to Signal Cable Ultra biwire and Analogue 2 RCA's. This gave a very nice improvement. Ah, but upgraditis set in :D

I tried Nordost Baldurs next. I loved the top end air, the much improved attack and decay, but it unbalanced the sound, as I was paying attention to the treble instead of the music. I think it highlighted the relative lack of bass of the Sequel II's. So now with my Summits, the Baldur's sound much better! Interesting. I had bought 1 set of Frey's, and they definitely improved the sound with the Sequel II's, much better bass/treble balance while still retaining the top end air. Less of a difference between the Baldur and Frey with the Summits though.

So now, I've got 2 Frey's, one from the CDP to preamp, the second from pre to power amp. I like it! Lots of top end air, while still well balanced sound stage. I tried the Baldur from CDP to pre with the Frey next, but found using 2 Frey's more cohesive. I've also got Nordost Shiva's to the CDP and preamp. I've got a 3rd on the way, for my phono stage. I'm still running the Signal Cable Ultra speaker cable, and Signal Cable Analogue 2 RCA for the phono stage. I tried the Baldur with the phono stage, but too bright and a bit grainy as the phono stage is still breaking in. I might try again in a month or two as I don't use my TT all that much. I'd like to get all Nordost cabling for any synergistic effects, but Nordost speaker cable is quite expensive, and rarely come up used I find. I'm sure I'll stick with my current set up for a while.

It's been very interesting experimenting with cabling. I don't like bright sounding stereo's, yet I've ended up with the silver coated copper cable as my favorite. I'm thinking of trying Signal Cable Silver Resolution power cables for each speaker, the power amp, and my Furman next. Man, once I'm done with cabling, then what? Oh yeah. Try tubed power amps, and upgrade the CDP. Hmm, a new TT would be nice to go with my fabulous phono stage. Oh yeah, next I'll.........ARRRGH! It's a disease! :D

How about posting a picture of your system as is. We all love audio porn!

Let me further enable your sickness with a pair of biwire Nordost SPM cables for your Summits. See my post in the classifieds.

Mmmmmm, audio porn.....That's what gets you revved up for aural sex culminating in an eargasm ;)

I'm having computer issues with images. I think it's reinstall-the-OS time. I'll certainly try when my computer cooperates.

Tonyc: an enabler! NOOOO! Quick, off to AA! That's Audiophiles Anonymous of course.

I haven't read much about the SPM's. Are they the flat ribbon style? Unfortunately 8 ft is too long for me. My system is not in an ideal location in our great room, and 6 ft. speaker cables are about max without coiling them beside my equipment stand. As you say, compromises with the Mrs. are a fact of married life, so the system stays where it is. Thanks for the offer though, AA buddy! I'm certainly happy to try equipment from knowlegable Loganites. Man, aren't the Summits amazing?

I too have a length of Nordost Frey which I love, between my turntable and preamp. I am desparately saving up for the 6m cable I need to connect my preamp to my monoblocks, and some Frey speaker cable. Alas, my current unemployed bum state means that I have to be careful how I spend my pennies. :-(

6M: ouch! We have the opposite problem. You have too much space and need long cables, I'm jammed together against one small wall, and have run out of space. I was thinking of tubed monoblocks, but with 2 small kids I think I need to keep my equipment somewhat protected in a rack. Hope your economic condition improves soon. But just think of all the around-the-house stuff you now have time to finish. Oh yeah, that needs money too!

Yeah, my wallet whimpers whenever I even think about 6m of Frey! :)

Thanks for the well-wishes. I have a couple of ideas that I'm beavering away on behind the scenes. Hopefully one or more will prove to be somewhat lucretive and I can start spending some more cash on toys!

As an update, I've now bought a set of Frey speaker cables. Yay!:D They should be here next week. I'm really looking forward to what an all-Frey system sounds like. I'll let everyone know when I've had a chance to listen well.

Colour me jealous! Let us know how you get on! :rocker:

Speaking of nordost cables.

A friend of mine with Tyr speaker cable discovered on the weekend that his cat had been chewing it, Leaving numerous tooth marks and holes.

Thats an expensive chew toy

Confirms why I am not a cat person :)

Chewed through Tyr speaker wires? :eek1: How much did it cost your friend per tooth mark....

Actually, your friend should disconnect his speaker wires, and replace them with extension cords plugged into your 240v receptacles. The problem should quickly take care of itself.... :D

I would hate to think.

Fortunately, only one of the cables has been chewed and he is taking the other to be shop to be checked.

Even if it did not affect the sound quality, there goes any possible trade in value.
