Does one need a subwoofer for quality bass?

Filter the sub, not the 'stat!

Sorry, physics (and THD measurements) tell me that it's a great idea to keep drivers operating in their ideal passband.

If the ESL is operating in its resonant frequency, the THD shoots way up.

Personally, I've been working hard (and spending dough) to keep the rig at sub 1% THD at 105dB SPL. Letting a panel play too low kills that.

I've got to disagree here. Filter each so that they are not asked to reproduce frequencies that are out side of their linear operating area. I know IMS that rolling off the bass to the Clarity's improved both the clarity and dimensionality of the main speakers and improved the integration of the subwoofer.

A the new owner of a Depth sub... I gotta say yes. Get a sub. It can only enhance your listening experience if you take the time (and it will take some time) to set it/them up properly.
