A few weeks ago I started a "to sub or not to sub?" thread, asking users about the advisability of adding a sub to my Summits. (I had tried a couple of pretty good subs but wasn't satisfied with the result.) The consensus seemed to be that it was worthwhile assuming that one purchased a good enough sub. I went ahead and bought a Descent i, which I have been breaking in over the past couple of weeks.
I have to tell you that the combination has proven to be sensational. I am thrilled--and a little mystified--by how much better it makes everything (not just the low bass) sound. The only analogy I've been able to come up with is the effect of drawing a black outline around a pastel picture. The contrast makes all of the colors appear that much more vivid. The system was very satisfying before, but now it is stunning. I can hardly believe it. Maybe something else is a factor (the room setup is slightly different, in part to accommodate the sub; the speakers themselves are that much more broken in). Whatever the cause(s), the effect is far beyond my expectations.
So, thanks to those of you who encouraged me to take the leap. The Descent i wasn't cheap, but it has taken this system to the next level. 'Love it!
