Looking for components for $1,500-$2,500 office system. Motion LX16?

I have Vistas and Dynamos at home. My cherished Monsoon flat computer speakers seem to be malfunctioning so I'm going to be purchasing a work system in the next few weeks. I started Googling "computer speakers" and found the A5+, then kept escalating in price as all good people do: -...

Can I chain amps together: connect speaker output to input of 2nd amp?

Can I use my 5.1 Sony as my pre-amp/amp for my center, surrounds, and subwoofer, and somehow use a 2nd amp (Yamaha) to drive my Vistas? I'd like plug my input sources (Blu-ray, DVD, etc.) to my Sony STR-DE475 since it's a 5.1 and it can decode DTS, etc. It's a cheap home entertainment amp but...

    Budget ~$200-$300 Turntable+Cartridge?

My Technics turntable died about six years ago and now that I'm building a modest ML system I'd like to spin my 200 LPs again. Can anyone recommend a budget turntable? I read some reviews of Sony turntables on Amazon.com and just don't know which one to buy. I'm hoping someone can recommend...

Is there enough LFE (better term?) in audio music to warrant a subwoofer?

Background: We've just moved into a new larger house and I'm dividing my previous single system into two new systems with different purposes: 1. Two channel music enjoyment system in the family room. [two Vistas] 2. 5.1 channel system entertainment system in the upstairs "bonus" room. [two...

Please recommend budget $1,000 amp for Vistas--What would *you* buy?

Currently, sources are plugged into my stereo Yamaha receiver which drives my Vistas. The Sony 5.1 is plugged into the Yamaha at the pre-amp/amp point to drive (soon)Logos, Vignette surrounds, and Dynamo. This gives me 200wpc for Vistas and simple Pro Logic decoding for 5.1. Yes, well, um...

Please recommend budget $1,000 amp for Vistas--What would *you* buy?

    Specs: 105 Watt - 8 Ohm - THD 0.06 % - 7 channel(s) ( Surround ) But I guess we don't know at 4 Ohms, etc.

Please recommend budget $1,000 amp for Vistas--What would *you* buy?

HDMI 1.1 vs HDM 1.3 Great ideas! Actually, there is one now for $1,300. One area of concern is that it appears this amp only supports HDMI 1.1. I think Super Audio CD needs HDMI 1.2 and the latest is HDMI 1.3 which seems kinda important to me since it seems to support a lot more stuff.

Please recommend budget $1,000 amp for Vistas--What would *you* buy?

Yamaha's RX-V863 ? Thanks... that sounds ideal... but for the next couple of years how about a Yamaha's RX-V863? for $600+ on eBay? It has 105wpc... Since it's 7.1 I could use four channels for the Vistas like you said. I know this is completely subjective but would this be a mistake or...

Home Theater Center: Is Electrostatic Important? Mainly Voice, Right?

Richard, thanks for your advice on the Logos center... I just purchased one and I can't wait to receive it and hook it up!

Advice Needed: Vignette for center? I think I overbought for surround speakers?

Thanks for everyone's replies. I've decided to keep them! I installed them onto the wall last weekend and afterwards as a test my daughter and I watched Star Wars Episode I. Boy, even though they are not broken in they would pretty good with the light saber matches. We turned it up quite...

Why does my Dynamo HUM when amp is turned off?

I've hooked my new ML Dynamo subwoofer via the LFE (RCA) to the LFE output (RCA) of my Sony STR-DE475 5.1 receiver. When I turn off my Sony amp the Dynamo makes a moderately loud humming noise (as if a person were to hum loudly) so I immediately have to flip the power switch off because it...

How do you hook up two amps simultaneously?

Worked--but not very loud Thanks for both of your suggestions. The only problem is that I'm driving two ML Vignettes and they don't get very loud. I turn up my Sony 80wpc amp all the way to 30/MAX and then I hear the surround info BUT there is so much background hiss that it's super annoying...

How do you hook up two amps simultaneously?

Because money is tight, for a while I'm going to try to use my Yamaha AX-570 amp for my Vistas and my Sony STR-DE475 amp for the surrounds, center, and sub. This way I can enjoy both music and movies until I spend the $2K on a real 5.1 processor. Question is, how do I separate the signal...

Please recommend budget $1,000 amp for Vistas--What would *you* buy?

Thanks for the advice! Thanks for all the input and advice everyone! The audiophile market place of products is very overwhelming for me and after participating in this community I feel I can trust Martin Logan for the loudspeakers. So stress related to speakers is low... I hope I can't go...

Downtown Chicago: Hi-End Stereo or Home Theater Stores/Salons?

I'll be in Chicago for an e-commerce show from Sunday to Wednesday and was wondering if anyone could recommend a place I could hear some high-end gear near Mccormick Place. I Googled this and did the Yellow Pages thing but can't make any heads or tails out of the results. Thanks in advance,

Wider Dispersion/Sweet Spot: Convex or Concave Curve?

I'm looking for the widest possible sweet spot for my center so that as many people as possible on our couch can enjoy the ML sound. I'm guessing that the convex (outside of banana) would be better because sound emanates outward in more directions where the concave focuses on a narrow listening...

Home Theater Center: Is Electrostatic Important? Mainly Voice, Right?

Thanks for the tip! I'm now going to start looking for a used Logos... sounds like it might be better than the Motif and certainly better than the Matinee.

Home Theater Center: Is Electrostatic Important? Mainly Voice, Right?

I'm guessing that the phantom somehow magically makes the voices come from the middle of the sound field? Now, if I only knew what a processor was!? I must admit I'm getting pretty tired of hearing Luke Skywalter talk three feet off to the left of the screen. :o

Home Theater Center: Is Electrostatic Important? Mainly Voice, Right?

I was thinking I could get a used Cinema from Audiogon or eBay. Now I'm scarred it might not be good enough. :( I head the Motif at Tweeter and I must say that 90% of the movie was coming through that thing.
