Do NOT get the 75 Ohm coax. Get an XLR cable, forget toslink, fiber, etc. Once you get experience with a QUALITY DAC, you will never go back to a 'cd player' any more than one would go back to a 'receiver' after listening to a pre-amp / amp combination

Yea, My Levinson works the same way. Try it, if it diesn't work, I'm pretty sure it won't hurt the the pre-amp

Well I just finished reading this thread, and thats 5 minutes of my life I won't be getting back. While I have always subscribed to putting more $$ into the speakers than any other individual component, I think the leap to the MLs for the existing source and processing components is just too...

Running a pair of Quests pushed by a Classe' CA150. Looking to go to a Mark Levinson 334. Don't think copious amounts of power are really necessary. A good 150 - 200 watts will suffice.

I have about the same issue. Under my Quests I put a Symposium platform. Works like a champ and no spike marks. Try it at: www.symposiumusa.com

The probelm as stated in numerous replies above is insufficient power causing the amp to be driven to overload. There is however the question of the quality of the signal that is being amplified. as alluded to earlier, unplugging an interconnect with the amp powered up is, sorry, but careless...

You could try getting a California Audio Labs (CAL) transport with their tubed DAC. It runs with a tube on each output stage. When I had that gear, it provided a great sense of warmth by smoothing the digital output into a more analog signal. I suspect a tube pre-amp would do the same...

I agree, its a great album. I have the Original Master Recording Ultradisc II version not the redbook cd. The resolution is great, the sound stage is perfect. Feels like you're in the studio with him.
