With zero polarity or prejudice - here are my thoughts.

There is a far more serious issue going on here, and it will be the end of us all if we fail to recognise it.

By making Islam, immigration and national sovereignty (and several other subjects) a forbidden, taboo and politically incorrect subject, we have delivered ourselves things such as Brexit and now Donald Trump. We have a similar politician in Australia too - Pauline Hanson. From suppression comes expression.

And if the so-called "silent majority" are precluded from expressing their views through political "normality" then, they will only stay silent for so long. They will - eventually and somehow - find an alternate means to express their views. Even if that way is irrational and ultimately "barking mad" to quote a recent anecdote.

It will be interesting to see the president-elect stand trial for racketeering.

Adam,

We've already seen solid evidence of this in France. I'm afraid it's only a matter of time before it proliferates in the USA and elsewhere.

I want to know if he is going to challenge the result. He said quite clearly "it was all rigged". So let's see him challenge the result. Or was it only "rigged" if he didn't get his way?

Hell must have frozen over ............... first the Cubbies win the Series and the 'Don' gets elected !

Well, I wasn't wrong. He's not challenging the result. ;)

I'm not to sure about going 'out with a whimper' though ! He certainly appears to have come in with 'a bang' !

The result is not about political correctness. For crying out loud these views were expressed and promoted daily in the media and actively endorsed by large parts of the political class in both Australia, US and the UK.

There has been no supression of such values, in fact the absolute opposite.

Political correctness (while annoying at times i agree) is just an excuse by those wanting to press racial buttons.

I said proto fascist not fascist, there is a difference - look it up you might get an insight into the campaign.

Also, despite your suggestion that Hollywood celebrities come to Australia, it does not change the fact that the conservative parts of American society have voted in someone who is pushing a socialist economic agenda.

Just saying...... because the irony of this is the only pleasure i am getting out of this situation.

Although, for the sake of being fair he did mention in the speech major national building projects to employ million of Americans - great idea.

But, if he is cutting taxes, how is this going to be paid for?

I won't comment about how things are in Australia, but in my opinion, he gave a spot on assessment of things here in the US. Perhaps those "views were expressed and promoted daily", but they were not expressed without a lot of calls of racism and such.

While watching the news here just yesterday, I can't remember if it was on CNN or MSNBC, but I flipped to the channel just in time to hear the host issue an apology for their guest have used the term "illegal immigrant". She made a point, before going to a commercial break, to make sure her audience knew that term was offensive and they don't use that phrase on her show, instead they use undocumented immigrant. Even democrats here get caught up in their own net of political correctness. Hillary had to apologize last November when she used the term illegal immigrant herself, and she also took heat when she said "all lives matter". It's has become out of hand. and he is correct, people such as myself have become quite tired with it.

believe what you want to ..........

Also, despite your suggestion that Hollywood celebrities come to Australia

not all, Tom Selleck and few others can stay ........ after all he spent enough time down your way as 'Quigley'

it does not change the fact that the conservative parts of American society have voted in someone who is pushing a socialist economic agenda.

time will tell, hell the guy hasn't even been sworn in yet !

gotta get busy building that damn wall !

But, if he is cutting taxes, how is this going to be paid for?

Its not about belief but the objectively obvious

Race baiting - check
creating victim - white working class - check
Stirring fear of other....- China, ISIS- check
getting support from far right groups e.g. KKK - check
Threatening political opponents - check
Undermining democratic process - Claiming election rigged but won anyway - check

After brexit there was a rise in violence and abuse of minorities. I hope to god that does not happen in the US - or elsewhere after this.

Ok, you have been responding a little flippantly to my comments - thats cool - but you must appreciate outside America (and inside too I suspect) there is a lot of genuine fear.

I would not like to be a Moslem in the US at the moment

That is no laughing matter

Scumur,

For the record .........I DID NOT vote for him !

BS ......... your subscribing to the mainstream liberal media, who BTW totally blew their supposed genius predictions on this election. Suffice it to say, you don't live here .........he won.....get over it.

I'm not laughing and I'm sure as hell not Moslem ............. abide by the laws of this Nation and enjoy it's fruits, if not, get the hell out ! ........ Understood !!!!!!

Political correctness can be annoying but I don't see a problem with trying to be respectful. Although that stuff about safe spaces at universities is the biggest load of garbage and dont get me started on micro-agressions.

I am definitely not a bleeding heart lefty.

You mentioned CNN (which is for an international Audience by the way) and MSN NBC but what about Fox News for crying out loud. It has a bigger audience than the other 2 combined and certainly it is not 'politically correct' in any way shape or form.

So I cant see the justification for feeling victimised by political correctness.

The problem with America is that there is no middle ground, everyone seems to be either batshit crazy right or batshit crazy left with little to no middle ground.

I blame the polarisaton of the media for that - left leaning people view NBC, right leaning people view Fox and everyone blames CNN for being right or left biased based on their perspective.

So in America there is no opportunity for real discussion or coming together, just tribalism.

I desperately hope Trump is more like his acceptance speech and not his campaign.

If so - things might be ok (in a 1950's regressive sort of way). If not, America and much of the world will have a very difficult time.

It would appear that we had a real problem with voter apathy in this election.
What I don't understand is why so many people registered to vote and then didn't bother. We had over 200 million people registered to vote which is many millions more than in past elections and yet we had less voters? WTF?

Yes this is America not Australia but what happens there has HUGE impact to what happens here - especially with respect to foreign policy. Also it is a Country I care deeply about having been there many times.

Many Australians are scared at the moment and it is not 'lefty media' FOR FXXKS SAKE!!!!!!

Most media in Australia is owned by Rupert Murdoch. Heard of him? - he is the owner of Fox news.

What I fear is the demonisation of minorities which has been occurring in England after Brexit.

Yes, even to law abiding Moslims.

I do not believe you or America in general is racist - Trumps win was about economic disaffection but his rhetoric will have consequences.

It will empower some ugly aspects of society - as is happening in Europe now.

I'm done

He lost on outright numbers. Yet he's in.

Low vote count could be a sign that there was little support for either candidate i.e. they were both questionable. And they were, IMHO.

I've heard a lot of people tell me that they voted for Trump but don't like him at all, which is a rough way to start a presidency.

Sadly I suspect that right now Trump is being told what's what by the people who are the real power in this country and has his tail between his legs wondering what he had gotten himself into. I think he will get a conservative Supreme Court just hand picked by the GOP Senate and past that I don't think he will be able to come through with the vast majority of what he ran on. He is a mental lightweight swimming with sharks now. He will make big announcements but there will likely be puppet masters behind the scenes running the show.

Hey Rich , care to fact check this BS?

I'd like to thank the tens of thousands that did a peaceful protest across the country today :rocker: , very classy!! And to those 'students' that burned the American Flag, you are within your 1st amendment rights however, many, myself included think you need to GET THE F out of the USA if you feel that strongly!!

No better than those idiots that refuse to stand for the National Anthem...there is a border to our north and south, and a coastline on the east and west...Get Out!! Disrespect of our flag, our anthem and our Country is not a right, it's a one way ticket to the end of your citizenship.

Calling Trump a racist is racist! I'm sick of everyone saying the white male is in charge...using the word 'male' makes these remarks sexist as well, sickening. If you're going to call out PC bull crap...be PC for cryin' out loud!!

I'm very pleased that there will be no more free loading losers sucking from the gov teat! And no more Syrian refugees entering the US until we are ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE they are NOT Radical Islamic Terrorists! Not the 'so-called' vetting that Obama has done and Hillary would have done...basically a wave in with forms to point you to the nearest DES office to collect your benefits...GRRRRRR! This kind of crap is why Trump won, I find it amusing that an Australian posts about Trump taking money from the KKK...what are we talking here? $20,000? That does not mean he supported the KKK, in fact he has denounced them many times, they are an aging, floundering group of old men in sheets that couldn't scare a small child on Halloween!

Hillary took millions from Qtar and Saudi Arabia and many others for 'pay for play', Iran's nuclear program (which will be wiped out in January, you all can thank us later!!). I will work with the new president and my reps in the best of my ability. I hope my liberal buddies here do the same, it's the right thing to do.
