What's under your TT affects sound?

I have tried a variety of support materials under my clearaudio refrence . This is a non suspended deck and sounds truly painfull on a glass shelf . Wood sounds much better , and I went with this for some years , although I was not totaly happy as the sound was just a little warm and wooly for...

    philips sacd transport

A warning to any SACD users . Recently my Musical Fidelitty Tri-Vista 300 SACD player developed a fault , no problem I thought and took it back to my dealers . the dealer sent it back to MF . To cut along story short , MF said it was irreparible as philips no longer support the SACD transport ...

Do you always keep your gear on ?

only leave my phono stage on all the time as I worry about valve life in my amp and SACD player . My Musical Fidelity equipment has illuminated feet which change colour as it warms up . It takes about 40 mins to go from red to blue , through orange and violet . Maybe its a gimmick , I dont know...

You are correct in thinking that the Clearaudio (Souther) linear tracking arm can sound very good, end of side distortion is something you may not realise you have until it is gone. The downside is, as you suggest, the set-up and maintenance of this arm is very finicky, in fact I am seriously...

Sorry - don't know anywhere in the mid-west - unless you mean Devon! :D The KW500 replaced the TriVista in the MF range as the Tri was limited to 500 pieces worldwide, both excellent amps that will drive almost anything, MF are the closest thing we have to Krell in the UK. I had a pair of...

Yes holmancv, it's really great on vinyl. It is the only way to hear music of this era. A good friend of mine gave me some Zeppelin LPs as he had replaced them on CD but it was not long before he was begging for them back! Rock 'n roll on CD sounds dead sometimes - it lacks the drive and...

thanks for your welcome Robin . glad you like my system , it has been , and remains , a labour of love . the picture between the speakers is by a local artist , and looks even better in real life . I still think vinyl sounds best and I am still collecting LPs , wish I had been at that yard...

Thanks for your interest - the plinths were made originally to fit a stand I had at that time. There are two thicknesses: 1" and 0.75". I had them made by a local monumental mason out of slate. Most stonemasons are only too happy to do this kind of work, and it's a lot cheaper than going to a...
