    Final Speakers out of business

Unfortunately, this will not be the end of the blood letting. I suspect the hobby we all love will look like a different place in the not too distant future.

    Happy Birthday Robin!

Yes, not a happy day for me either, due to the bucks I had to shell out, but all the best to you Robin.

    Why We need Audiophiles..

Awesome article! I have already sent it to two of my friends who just don't understand our hobby, since it explains far better than I could ever hope to do.

    ByeBye Rotel ~ Hello Parasound

I have two of the Parasound A23s that I'm biamping My Prodigies with, and I'm very happy with them. The're very musical and articulate. :music: The only problem that I've had was the left volume pot on both amps became intermentent. The factory fixed both with no problems and quick...

Is there enough LFE (better term?) in audio music to warrant a subwoofer?

I run a sub with my setup both in two channel and HT. The sub is not fed directly from the AV receiver however. I use the sub's internal xover off the low port(s) of my electronic crossover. I find in crossing at 80 hz that there is a lot of program material in 2 channel that excites the...

    I went into a mass-market shop today

That's exactly my point. The majority of folks are not interested in high fidelity, and what is pleasing to them is not hifi.

    I went into a mass-market shop today

Its not that it sounds bad. The general public, in my opinion, is perfectly happy with 70hz to about 6khz and with enough compression that nothing jumps out and catches their attention. That gets the vocals some instruments and everything else is just sort of there, kind of. It doesn't force...

    I went into a mass-market shop today

Remember most people have no idea what a real live string quartet or, a brass section, is supposed to sound like. We don't listen to live unamplified music by in large as a population. I have had people in my house who seemed annoyed by the dynamics and realism of the music. Many folks don't...

    direct to disc

Thanks for mentioning the drum kit, one of the highlights of the recording. One of my pet peeves about a lot of otherwise fine recordings are drums and piano that is wall-to-wall so to speak. In this recording all instruments are located in an acoustic space sized as it should be. The drums...

Anybody have any experience with high end Denon DVD players?

I'm glad someone from our little group got in on the Oppo pre-release. But I have to say in comparing the Oppo DV-980H to the Denon-5910, (which I own both) the 5910 does a much better job of DVD up-conversion and with the audio. Which considering the price difference it should. Don't get...

    direct to disc

If you ever get the chance to hear it run through 7.1 surround, the Sheffield Lab direct-to-disk recording "The King James Version, Harry James & His Big Band" is unbelievable. Its recorded in the Hollywood Presbyterian Church Chapel with a single stereo mike. You can really get a sense of the...

Anybody have any experience with high end Denon DVD players?

I'm using the Denon DVD-5910-CI on the main system downstairs and waiting for Oppo to release their BR player. I will continue to use the 5910 for Music playback which its really good at. I'm using the internal DACs and taking the multichannel analog outputs to my receiver.

    getting things clean

From what I have been able to tell the shelf life is probably in hours, not days.

    getting things clean

Use one tablet in about 1 oz of distilled water applied to the vinyl (one tablet can do several disks). Rinse with either distilled water or your favorite cleaning solution all vacuumed off the vinyl as usual.

Hey, have any of you guys tried the enzyme tablets used for contact lens in distilled water with your record cleaning machine?:rocker:
