You may be able to check sub phasing on both speakers is the same by (briefly) touching and removing a 1.5 v torch cell accross the sub terminals and watching whether the cones both jump forward with the same battery orientation?
maybe to late to be of use but:
CLSII's can be down in vol in one channel for several other reasons other than just the Stat.
My feeling is you should suspect the power supply first. Mylar usually doesn't fail catastrophically, but will drop off slowly...some of the early mylar would arc to the...
I have a few ML speakers.
My CLS2's were changed to CLS2a config. some time ago with the ML (in field) circuit changes and I intended at some stage to do the CLS2z conversion.
I got most of the parts I needed, including Mundorf Supreme Film caps ( a bundle to make up the 50 mF equiv.) and Erse...
Well I started making my own heavy cables from commercial 2.5mm2 shielded cables and poo poo'ed the thought that it could make any diff. (except shielding (EMI) and current draw).
Then I inhereted some OCC copper cables with the Halcros.
When I compared this cable on my CD (easiest and fastest...
Looking at the dates in some of the quoted links in this thread, I would think you would need to treat some of the info with more than a little scepticism.
You really do need to know what century the article was written in before giving the info too much weight.
If you go back far enough...
I don't want to open a can of worms, but I have gone from being a 'sceptic' to a 'believer' in "good power cables".
I have a scientific background, but have had to 'leave my science at the door' as to why this works..lots of unproven theories out there.
I have had significant gains from power...
I have a couple of REL subs. Best is the B2, but have to cross it below 40Hz and with vol way down to almost off. On rear wall I find the REL seamless with CLS and CLS2a.
Problem I find with the super low freq subs is they will pick up ALL sub music sounds (below 25Hz) esp on vinyl. The B2 is a...
I agree with Tom and Lagonda.
Krell will do everything you could wish for as far as control is concerned. I LIKE the Krell sound..not everyone does, but that is the nature of this hobby we have in common. (I enjoy other flavours also :music:)
On the stability side, even the Krell FPB 200 (baby)...
I completely agree with CAP...room compatibility is a HUGE factor!
I'd try the combo out to see if it delivers the music your ears like.:music:
(so many variables)
I'd love to be able to compare the two sets of speakers together with the same amp (or a few different amps if you can get some...
My .02.
Probaby need to know the current capability of the conditioner.
The current requirements of the amps (incl sub).
I dont know how the Panamax rates as a conditioner and some critics feel that lower level conditioners can degrade the signal.
What is generally acknowlwdged is that all...
I'd check for simple fixes first. Connections, power in, fuse on power supply board (if one).
Sometimes the iec socket can get contacts to PCB broken, if it is not securely screwed to the chassis. cheers, Greg
From what I can see.
CLS (first series) panels ....from the clips, wires and spacer gaps.
The power supply boards are unusual layout. Not CLS (integral board with X over),or CLS2 and not latest config.
ML could well have had this as a variation on power board mid CLS2 series.
Possibly new...
Hi Oxford
Board looks exactly as the drawing above.
I have only just got my new RSA foil cables supported (and burning in), tied to a hole through the top plate and base box and it is going to mean removing my cabling and would rather not just atm. The ends are contiguous milled foil (and...
Hi Krazi,
I have run Krell FPB amps into CLS (neg post has E pot.) for ages..No Problem.
My understanding is "fully balanced output" has no chassis earth involved in the output signal and no potential to seek E unless it is given that potential further back up the interconnect wiring chain...
Photo of Jim's hand drawn diagram attached.
Modern panels (pretty much includes all replacement panel and OEM panels from early 1990's) had better electrostatic dispersion coatings and didn't need to be charged up quite as high to make them jump when they saw speaker signal.
The connectors...
