I just wish everyone (in particular, our "wonderful" Congress, with their 11% approval rating) would take a minute to look in the mirror so they could see who it is that's screwing things up for our Country.

Len, as stated many times before, I wholeheartedly agree ! We have been touting for years 'vote 'em out, term limitation, etc' ....truth is the 'two party line' is killing us all.

I'm proud of both of them for this. They did the right thing. I hope others will join them.

Interestingly, her former campaign chief, Ed Rollins, joined the chorus:

In a post published on FoxNews.com, Rollins called Bachmann’s accusations “extreme and dishonest.” Speaking of dishonesty, he went on to make some harsher statements about the former presidential hopeful: “Having worked for Congressman Bachman’s campaign for president, I am fully aware that she sometimes has difficulty with her facts, but this is downright vicious and reaches the late Senator Joe McCarthy level.” Source

Just as interestingly, I note that Mitt Romney has been completely silent on this issue. Normally, presidential candidates during a campaign try to act . . . well, you know, kind of presidential. Playing it safe as ever, Romney missed a prime opportunity to show the people of this nation that he has a moral conscience and wouldn't hesitate to speak out against members of his own party if they cross the line. By remaining silent on such an obvious ethical issue, he has only proven that he will play it safe and not address any serious ethical issues within his own party. I think this was a huge mistake for his campaign because it shows more than anything what type of leader he will (or, in this case, won't) be.

Michele Bachman called out a United States Citizen, who was born, raised and educated here, who has been Hillary Clinton's aide for fifteen years, and who happens to be Muslim (and married to a Jewish man, no less), called her out as a terrorist that has infiltrated our government. She did so while presenting no actual evidence whatsoever, just making sly insinuations that the girl's father (who has been dead twenty years), mother, and brother have "alleged ties" to the Muslim Brotherhood. She has been called on the carpet for those remarks by both John McCain and John Boehner, a highly unusual break with Party loyalty to chastise one of their own for making highly inappropriate remarks. But you don't really see anything racist in Bachman's pronouncement, or anything wrong with it at all? Ok then. Silence like that is deafening, and is what allowed McCarthyism to flourish.

The first I heard about this Rich was when reading your post here at work. So I wasn't going to comment too much on something that at the time I knew so little about. I still don't see anything racist in her pronouncement, but yes I do see something wrong with it. I don't think you mention names in accusations ike that without a good amount of supporting evidence to back up your claim. As far as the letter itself, were it not to have mentioned Huma Abedin or others, I don't see where there was much wrong with it.

If you recall, rep. Cynthia McKinney accused George Bush of having prior knowledge of 9/11 and not acting upon that information to prevent the worst attack on the American people in our history. Here were her statements from that time. Mckinney- "We know there were numerous warnings of the events to come on September 11. What did this administration know and when did it know it, about the events of September 11? Who else knew, and why did they not warn the innocent people of New York who were needlessly murdered?"

So Michele Bachmann co-writes a letter, basically saying that we know that one of the methods of the Muslim Brotherhood will be to try to plant moles within our government, and we should look into Huma Abedin as perhaps compromised due to her relatives relations with the Muslim Brotherhood, without any supporting evidence. If that isn't correct, let me know, but from what I have heard and read that is pretty much the short of it. Then we have McKinney who accused a sitting president of having prior knowledge of the planned 9/11 attacks and perhaps not taking action so he could have an excuse to go to war and make profits, again without any supporting evidence. Michele Bachmann is leading us back to McCarthyism, has proven herself racist, and is a kook. Cynthia McKinney who, in my opinion, made a much worse accusation (murder), well she was just viewed as a kook at the time. I don't recall any democrats, or republicans either for that matter, suggesting her accusation was proof of her being a racist.

Kevin, I would agree that Cynthia McKinney is a kook and a racist, but I am not sure how that red herring relates to the issue of whether Bachman's unsupported accusations seek to play on racial fears of muslims in this country and insinuations that Obama is really a muslim in disguise, which have been made for years, in order to use that fear in support of republican candidates in the fall elections. What she is really saying is that this whole administration has been infiltrated by muslims seeking to destroy us from within, much as McCarthy used Communism as a hammer to crush union members and others with whom he had an idealogical disagreement. If you don't see that, when even McCain, Boehner, and Rollins obviously do, then I will stick with my comment that you intentionally have your head in the sand on this issue. As you said, we will have to agree to disagree on that one.

Yeah, well, guess you have an "interesting" take on things. Reminds me of that scene in "The Manchurian Candidate" where the co-conspirators (husband and wife -- played by Angela Lansbury) were cooking up a scheme to make some sort of wild accusation regarding the current administration. As the scene fades, the husband (looking to be nominated to run for president/vice-president) is seen shaking a bottle of Heinz Ketchup. As the next scene opens, he his holding a press conference where he is making the accusation that "...there are 57 members of the Communist Party now serving in the State Department."

Of course, just like bat-$hit crazy Michelle, a total fabrication.

If you recall, rep. Cynthia McKinney accused George Bush of having prior knowledge of 9/11 and not acting upon that information to prevent the worst attack on the American people in our history. While this is not necessarily the majority view, a substantial minority believe that the Bush administration had several warnings that something big like 9/11 was coming and did little (obviously not enough) to prevent it. Please see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_polls_about_9/11_conspiracy_theories

Furthermore, Ms. Mckinney was hardly the only one asking these types of questions. In fact, some of the rather significant outcomes of the investigations into 9/11 resulted from this line of inquiry, specifically including the intelligence gathering and sharing process.

In any case, one of the certain outcomes of this awful tragedy (9/11), is that it gave the rapidly failing Bush administration new life, enabled him to start two lengthy wars, and actually be elected President in 2004.

Well, hell, there is nothing whatsoever racist in the quotes of Ms. McKinney that you present here.

And please, you're worried about Bush having been a "sitting president?" Good grief, after all the outlandish things President Obama has been accused of (remember, he is the current "sitting president"), I would hardly think you would want to go down THAT path.

Just sayin'...
