Have you tried listening without the record bookcase in the middle? I know moving my audio cabinet out of the listening room really improved my system’s imaging. Voices and instruments fell into place and had a more definite location. Looks like it should not effect too much with the height of the panels, but you asked for suggestions…

I listened prior to putting the bookcase together, but the speakers were farther apart. After I put the case together and put the records in, I decided to move the speakers a little closer together. It didn't seem like I lost any apparant depth to the sound image. I will move the case to the right of the speaker and see if I hear any difference. Thanks.

All the basics apply - everything symmetrical left and right, as much corner bass trapping as you can manage, and absorption at the reflection points on the side wall and optionally the ceiling too. More here:

Thanks Ethan, that's what I intend to do. This will be my first time experimenting with acoustical treatments.
