I do not think there is any "hype" with the Martin Logan product they are a speaker company maybe they just like to make speakers and good sounding ones at that its nice to have choices. I would never compare Martin Logan with Wilson

I feel a vague sense of betrayal if all of this info is true. In re-thinking my attitude, I wonder if Prodigy and Odyssey owners felt the same way when the Summits were originally introduced. There was no "i" incarnation for either of these 2 speakers either. OTOH, when the Ascent i was introduced, I believe a panel change and a woofer change did occur. Why would this not be possible on an older Summit. Does ML expect owners of Summits to commit to this change? Do they expect us to purchase new speakers which are almost identical to their predecessors? I wish that ML would chime in on this subject so that the speculation will come to an end. I think they are doing a dis-service to loyal customers who might require an explanation.

I think they expect most people to be happy with what they have and sell new speakers to new customers:p
they are not going to stop the evolution of there product line just so that you will not have an "out of date model"

Suppose your Spires were made obsolete tomorrow with no way to upgrade. How would that feel to you?

Just like any other company. Normal evolution of a product line.

I'm not Fishman, but as a soon-to-be owner of the Spire, permit me to chime in. In the scenario you describe, the Spire would still be a fantastic speaker, despite being "obsolete". Just about everything becomes obsolescent and early adopters are usually hit the hardest.

If current Summit owners are disinclined to upgrade, they too still have an excellent, world class speaker. It's not as if they suddenly started sounding like Bose speakers!

Can a speaker ever truly be obsolete? As for the hype issue, the Spire sorta seems to fall into that category. I am quite interested in hearing it though. Given the reaction, I am sure it is amazing. I cannot ever remember a cheaper newer model being preferred over the flagship.

they will sound the same tomorrow as they do today.

the only way I may become upset is if Martin Logan suddenly dropped the price of a new model I already own you really cannot compare to used audiogon or ebay prices because you do not get the same service without a warranty

to mark - I think the CLS was preferred at its inception over more expensive logan models at the time but someone with more history knowledge may correct me if I am wrong.

Hi guys, new member and soon to be ML owner here.
Since I'm a new member I thought that I should try to make my first post interesting and its about the Summit X.

Here's a bit of information which solidifies what another person wrote on the previous page.
The crossover has been reworked in a way that will help with room placement and blending between the panel and woofers. My source is "very interested in the novel approach that Joe is taking on the bottom end and think it is pretty radical, making for a more room friendly product".

Cosmetic upgrades are slight from afar, but interesting up close.
I.e. the speculation that they will look more or less like the classic Summits is true, however there will be subtle changes.

More to come, stay tuned! :)

Well, I have no privy to what ML is doing or what the X will be. Given the history of ML (I repeat from an earlier post), I believe that we won't be disappointed with the X.

Anyone who is a member of this site knows that non of the ML speakers are really obsolete. People are still buying Monoliths, CLS'. I have a pair of Quests that I use everyday.

Unless the philosophy at ML has changed since the take over, I think we owe the company a bit of faith and adopt a wait and see attitude.

The good news here is that the wait wont be long at all and your faith will not have been in vain ;)

Seth, that's impossible for as Fish said they will still sound superb tomorrow !

hell, my three year old Vantage's sound great (why shouldn't they !) but if someone makes me an offer I'd sell them and get a pair of Spire's tomorrow !

Whoa,,,,, hold the train here a minute! NO Martin Logan is obsolete. They service them for the next 25 years. I do agree with the point of room size being a issue. I too could not use the CLX in my room. (Its tight with CLS, and after hearing them in a huge room I know what they need). So the foot print is a issue. The proposed Summit X may be the right size but HOW much better than the Spire, or a SPIRE with a sub?

Wow! 10 pairs of Summits currently listed on A'gon, ranging from $4500-7200!! I wonder how many of these sellers are planning to upgrade to the Summit X? Maybe I'll upgrade to the Summit X myself, after the Summit XXX is announced (talk about Audioporn!).

Can you imagine what Croatia's Insider magazine's photos of the Summit XXX would be like?!
