5 or fewer recordings to listen to for the rest of your life, what would they be? They don't have to be because of how "good" they sound, I'm curious what people would choose just because of the musical material too. You could listen on a little radio or your ML system. Just curious what people say.

Mine are
Reel to Real by Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers
Hard Candy by the Counting Crows
Any recording of Beethoven's 9th Symphony
Concert in Central Park by Simon and Garfunkel
Fizzy, Fuzzy, Big and Buzzy by the Refreshments

I changed a couple of mine several times. But I could live with this.

Looking forward to reading your ideas.

CDs I can not live without are listed below

Pink Floyd's: The wall
The Dead Can Dance: Into the Labyrinth
The Beatles: Revolver
Beastie Boys: Pauls Boutique
The Eagles: Hotel California

I guess if I could only have five records, I'd sell my hifi system, because music wouldn't be interesting anymore...

5 albums:

White Album - Beatles
The Wall - Pink Floyd
Kind of Blue- Miles Davis
The Band - The Band
Johnny Cash - At Folsom Prison

Tonepub

Does that mean to say that you listen to the music for the production quality and not the music? Just curious, because you threw me for a loop. I have a wide music palette, but I couldn't live without it.

pink floyd - the final cut
Alicia Keys - songs in a minor
dire straits - brothers in arms
ozzy osbourne - speak of the devil
queen - Classic Queen blue cover

Not in that order of course . can I change my top 5 this afternoon ???? lal
I think the idea of this kind of restriction is making me sick right now

I've actually had this conversation with myself on many occasions (What's with those voices, anyway?), but it's generally about which album, and it's always a toss-up between two:

Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
Renaissance - Scheherazade & Other Stories

I'll get back to you when the voices advise on the other three.

"Renaissance - Scheherazade & Other Stories"

Try listening to "Novella," it's been on the TAS list for years. Love Annie Haslim's voice.

I'll agree.. Novella is AWESOME... :music:

5 discs I have to listen to forever... This is really hard, but I'll chose these ones:

ELO: A New World Record
Radiohead: OK Computer
Keane: Hopes & Fears
Rush: Grace Under Pressure
Yes: 90125

Sunday, I have 'em all, and had the pleasure of hearing Renaissance at the Greek Theater nearly 30 years ago(!) FYI, Repertoire has quietly remastered Ashes are Burning, Scheherazade, Turn of the Cards, Illusion and, just recently, Live @ Carnegie Hall. All of these are a substantial improvement over the earlier issues. God willing, they're working on the remainder. See here. Easily (and most cheaply) purchased from amazon UK.

Thanks, I'll be watching that site.

Here's another: Judy Collins, "Judith." The violas on "Houses" will bring up the goosebumps. But only on the LP. Just one of many reasons to have a turntable.

Man Rocker, "Your Killing me Smalls" as it was said! I will have to think this over ! I love every genera of music but to have 5 forever.

I would have to agree, but in the spirit of the question

Grateful Dead - Live Dead
The Who - Who Are you
Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality
John Coltrane - The Gentle Side
Chicago - CTA

You're right...

The Tubes - Young and Rich
Elvis Costello - Imperial Bedroom
The Pretenders - The Pretenders
Cheap Trick - Cheap Trick
Tosca - Delhi 9

Man, this is tough, but here's my stab:

Genesis - Trick of the Tail [SACD remaster]
IQ - Dark Matter
Porcupine Tree - Stupid Dreams [DVD-Audio]
Richard Foulkes - Concert (my dad playing Liszt, Chopin, Rachmaninoff piano masterpieces)
Lisa Gerard - Duality

Agreed, really tough, wish it were the top 50!

But...

Saint Saens - Symphony No. 3, Reiner & the CSO
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
The Beatles - Abbey Road
Jeff Buckley - Grace
Roxy Music - Avalon

It could likely be 5 different ones tomoorow, or 5 others next week.

thanks everyone

I enjoy reading about music tastes from people who obviously have great taste in gear.

I'm looking into getting some new music. Now I have more ideas.

(I love questions like that.)
