Tonight I have my old pair of Acoustat Spectra 22 speakers back. I had traded them into shop I work at in 1992 because Acoustat went out of business.

Today, customer that had brought these speakers traded them in for small slimmer speakers. I set them up in my room hooked up to McIntosh MC302 power amp.

notes on sound:

forgot how in-efficent these speakers are

panel bass much different than dynamic speaker bass

surprised how good rock&roll, rock, popular music sounds like on these

sweetspot very narrow

dynamics not as good as Martin Logans I heard recently ( Ethos ), not as open as newer electrostatics

for 22 year old speakers, they still are amazing and midrange is fantastic

Dan

Do not need subwoofer at all now!!!!! unbelieveable bass response now ( Acoustats been plugged in now about 4 hours )

Its nice not needing subwoofer at, measuring bass response down to 40 hz with audio tools by studio six digital. Found this program in absolute sound magazine.

Considering this is a full range electrostatic that is 22 years old, I can not complain !!!!

I was an Acoustat dealer and have personally owned:

Model Threes
Model Two + Two
Model Sixes
Spectra 22
Spectra 33
Spectra 66

If you have the room and the power, these Acoustats were amazing!
