Well the Analysis are not all-ribbon, they are planar/ribbon a la Maggies; except that they trounce Maggies in every aspect. Yes it was Paulo's pair that I auditioned in his truly exceptional and large room! (Thanks Paulo, if you are you are reading this).

Frustratingly, I will never know what an original Duetta Sig sounded like. I wish I could turn back the clock to see how improved over the originals these really are.
Justin, is the upgrade a "standard" upgrade, or was there something special done for you (apart from the paint job), i.e. if someone else got a DS and had them upgraded, would it be the same upgrade as yours? Is there an option to have it done with better parts (capacitors, etc.)?

Did you follow up on getting stands from Mye Sound ?

I don't think there is a standard upgrade. You're paying for it - you can have what you like. I asked Jon to use what he considered the best. You can have external x-overs if you'd like - but I didn't go for that. Could have it done later.

I think Jon is constantly trying to better the x-overs - so over time, what he considers best will change. He's messing with resistors at the mo - when he gets that sorted, I will have them fitted if he thinks they are better.

I went to the Bristol Hi-Fi show today with Jon & others. I bought some stands for the Mark & Daniels at a good show discount, but no, I haven't followed up Mye. But the stock stands could be improved on - no question.

Where does it all stop, though?:D Considering I just trashed the tip on my Transfiguration Orpheus, not here! That's the high priority at the mo...

Well, I spent the better part of today re-arranging my listening room. So here are some in-situ pics. I hope you're not all sick to death of this thread, but I know we have some porn lovers around here, and some of these pics show ribbon close ups the like of which I have never seen on the web. So basically, some of them are worthwhile.

Rear view, MRTW three position switch removed entirely, CMC binding posts (not the Eichmann's mentioned earlier), and black stocking. Ice cubes trying to remove the pits left by the Ascent spikes!:D

Bass ribbon close up, showing the tight tolerances to which they are obviously made. It also shows the protective mesh employed in the foreground.

Also, bass ribbon with rear lighting, and just a plain old bottom of the bass ribbon shot.

In-situ at night. Granted, the room could be bigger, but they definately do work well in here. They are 1 metre from the rear wall, with some space from the side walls. Spent quite a while trying them in different positions - this seems best.

No spikes on the speakers yet - which is why they look wonky, I guess. All the weight is on the MRTW side of the speaker, so it's pushing into the carpet and underlay quite a bit. Also, the toe-in adds to the wonky appearance, I suspect. I've got more toe-in on them than some seem to like with Apogees. Not a lot more, though. This gives best results for me in this room, and forms very cohesive and spacious images.

Plus 211s fired up, wondering what all the fuss about driving Apogees is all about. No problem, they say. Well, at least the DS is no problem:)

Phew! Task completed for today - including the web posting, and a lot of messing around inside the Air Tight pre, trying to make the gearing quieter.

Not at all; keep the porn coming.

Great looking system, Justin. Love the colour of the speakers!

BTW are you going to break down and try some room treatment, even though it does not seeme to be favoured there?

as if the speakers arent cool enough, the paint job tops the cake. i want to be a fly on the wall at your house. congrats!

Looks like a movie set on Stargate, I can't wait until the aliens walk out of your speakers.

Enjoy them as I am sure you will, again and again.

Be sure not to forget us...... here in ML land.

That's probably it on the porn... posting more could result in American military invasion of chez Justin judging by the comments.:D Thanks to all for those.

Room treatment - maybe at some stage. Getting used to Apogee bass now - it's quite different to cone bass. But somehow it can also sound uncannily real - especially in the kick drum department on the latest Massive Attack album.

I'll still post... who knows, the next gen of MLs could be killer, so I might be an owner again. They're gonna have to do well with the next iteration, though. Very well indeed...

Justin,

I am sure that you and a can of blue spray paint could make a pair of CLXs sound just as good as the Apogees.

And who knows they might even look as good.:D

You should send your CLXs to the ML Custom Shop, Joe, and get 'em done in Ferrari Red. Then they'll sound really racey and very much better... and you can join the exclusive club of "my speakers are the same colour as my car":D.
