Hello, I'm a newbie here but I just read the Club sections from time to time and I'm glad to be a part of you.
Pardon if I make some mistakes, I live in Italy.
Recently a dream came true and I have found in Germany a wonderfull CLSII pair in mint conditions (panels are amazing new). Today I opened the x-overs boxes and this is what inside:

Now my followings doubts:
1) are they original (and the Solen caps are the ordinary production ML or do they are a tweek?)
2) may someone post a picture of original CLSII x-over to make me know about changes have done?
3) May someone explain me better what about german version label on trafos and on external face of x-over?

Thanks for all.

Is this a 220V unit? That would explain the "German" transformers? I don't think ML used Solen caps -- too expensive ;-) So maybe someone upgraded certain parts. The wires connecting the speaker binding posts to the PCB look like upgrades also. You should send the pictures to Jim Power at MartinLogan and ask for his comments: [email protected]

Hi Neil, right it's a 220V model, but in others european states there isn't a similar label..
Wiring from binding posts to PCB is a monster cable.
Bye.

How do they sound?

Hi Gieffe,

Have you hooked them up and listened to them? Also curious as to what other equipment you have and your room info.

I had a pair of CLS2A's and sold them. Very bad mistake in retrospect.

They are, if properly set up with the appropriate electronics, a magical speaker that can transport you to the essence of music.

Best regards,

GG

Hi Gordon, actually my gear is equipped by a Densen Beat-400XS digital source & Pierre Lurnè J1 w/ Triplanar VII w/ AudioTechnica AT-33 Ref. w/ Benz Micro PP1-T8 pre phono analog source & Onkyo T-9990 DX tuner. AudioResearch Ref.2 mkII w/ Krell FPB-200. Room is 6 mt. x 11 mt. not enhanced.
I hooked speakers and they sounds pretty good, they fly of course...but I was a little sad when I discover that.
BYe...
"They can transport in the essence of music..." they really are golden words!

I second that notion about getting rid of my CLS's as well. They were one of my favorite speakers of all time!

Why fret? If the speakers sound good and clearly you have nice electronics, than any mods shouldn't really matter! Sound first I say.

Hi there....today I'm very proud to have received this following JP's answer:
Greetings Giuseppe,
Thank you for the very nice pictures.
I can assure you that those are very original and very genuine CLS IIs
from 1989. I remember them well. I had been working here nearly a year
when yours were built.
At the request of our German distributor, we applied the German decal
that you see on the interface boxes. They wanted some proof from us that
the units were built by us for them. Of course there was absolutely no
other difference other than the decal. ...".

This make peace to mu doubts and clear that CLS II was (is) a great, very great, soulsoundmachine!

You should print out Jim's response so you have it on hard copy just incase you need it for backup if and when you sell the speakers. Glad you got good news on it! PEACE!
