    Cryogenics Redux

To WB my sincere apologies for falling of the courtesy rail there. You are quite right about "the sound of our systems" and I do hope that all this madness is somewhere still in the service of music. I try to do my bit by subscribing to the symphony season. Last week the Detroit Symphony...

    Cryogenics Redux

Somehow my intial posting seemed to mostly generate a series of spousal drolleries. Is it possible that my fingers typed "myspace.com" instead of "martinloganowners.com"? So I take the liberty of quoting my initial posting in the hope to learn something from others on this subject. Any...

We can assume that you don't like her very much?

    Cryogenics

This process which is used to increase the lifespan of metal tools and machinery by up to 400%, is also seen in some products in high resolution audio. I have been using ZYX phono cartridges for the past few years and recently traded up to the ZYX Universe which in it's literature claims...

Review of final sound 1000i and how ESL's work

Be careful in being sure without certainty. The metaphor of "running circles" may be a poor choice of words, I try to keep all speakers spot on. As I described, there are irreconciable differences between the two designs. I am speaking of all Final models both the 1000i and the 600i, and the...

Review of final sound 1000i and how ESL's work

"You like/I Like" As I have posted before, I run several separate electrostatic systems, one 2-channel with Summits, analogue only with tube front end and amps. The other a five channel all Final solid state for watching film. As noted by others the Finals are entirely of one cloth, the...

    matching Martin Logans with Finalsounds

I don't quite agree. The ambient sound in the rear is made up of elements mostly from the left and right. When is information is played by a different driver it is immediately noticable. Try it by simply using the reference tone to set the various channel levels in a surround processor. It is...

    matching Martin Logans with Finalsounds

I have both a Summit 2-channel system and a 5-channel all Final system with a Descent crossing over at 80 Hz. Much to my suprise the flat Finals exhibit less of a sweet spot than the curved Summits. One gets just the same projection of sound over the full width of a large couch. The Summits...

First Audition of New Stats. Heresy to follow!

Denmark is not the Netherlands where Final is made. They are not even neighbouring countries and have very little in common other than being in Europe.

First Audition of New Stats. Heresy to follow!

Summit/Final I own a two channel system with Summits and a five channel all Final set-up with 600is front, 400i center and 150is as rear channels, with a Descent to handle 40 cycles and below. The 2-channel set-up is all tube and the 5 channel is SS. I use both systems for exclusively for their...

Carmina Burana and Shostakovich #5 records

Shostakovich performed by Russians I have heard the Shostakovich fifth played by the Concertgebouw/Haitink, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra/Jarvi and most recently by the Kirov from St. Peterburg under Valery Gergiev, all in life performances. Ther is no doubt that Shostakovich, probably the...

    Audiophile recordings

"on the A5 between Garmish-Partinkirken and Munich" Something tells me that you were driving to Garmisch-Partenkirchen; I know that in the US geography is an approximate art but anyhow.... I think that one can drive safely at 145 mph on the Autobahn and would probably die on a US freeway...

    Final Electrostatic Speakers

Has anyone been able to hear these, or better yet compare these full range electrostats to Martin Logans? They are manufactured in the Netherlands and have been on the US market for many years.

MartinLogan won't be at CES this year?

As I posted yesterday they will be in Las Vegas and you will be able to see their products at the Residence Inn. You just will not be able to hear them. For many exhibits at the CES that could actually be a blessing.

MartinLogan won't be at CES this year?

They will be in LV this year again but not in the CES' or The Show's line up. They will hold dealer meetings in the Residence Inn without "live" exhibits though.

    Granite "feet" under my Summits?

The question is really what is under your floor. If the beams are part of the foundation and there is no room or basement underneath you would be better of putting the Summits on the spikes provided. Better yet replace the ML spikes with solid brass cones. I would start out working on room...

Do Electrostatic Speakers Ever Quit Changing?

Get a Bose! I host a weekly music listening session for a circle of music enthusiasts of several dozen people. Some weeks there are just a few of us, at other times ther may be 12-15 people in the room. Many participants have been coming by for ten years or more and have themselves become avid...

    Floor Protectors

After several members asked me about Acoustic Partners, the last importer of the SSC products, I found out that Acoustic P. has dissolved and the product does not have an US importer at this point. The manufacturer however is in Germany, called Akzept Audio and apparently still produces the...

    Audio Research amps

Why Solid State? I have owned five version of ML speakers and with every model ended up using Audio Research tube equipment. I have tried many solid state units and never found any that reinforces the unique strength of electrostats the way AR tube gear does. I own a number of SS amps by...

    Floor Protectors

Wood floor as giant resonator Many floors including my oak floor on the ground level of my house have been built over a basement. I found that this huge cavity under my speakers was clearly audible and interfered with both bass and midrange clarity. The entire lower level of the house...
