    Sa-cd.net

There are too many variables for them to be even remotely useful (equipment, rooms, preferences, etc.). I suppose you could buy one that receives 5 stars and see if you agree. If so, then that reviewer is probably reliable. I've read a fair amount of hyperbole, so sometimes it's hard to take...

If you had to choose a NON planar speaker, what would it be?

I had to go for a real world choice, not if money were no object!

If you had to choose a NON planar speaker, what would it be?

I'm replacing my Theos with a pair of DALI Epicon 2s (room and wife limitations...), so I'll report back when they arrive in a few days. I heard a pair a few weeks ago and was blown away by their transparency and detail. If space and WAF weren't an issue, then I'd go for the Epicon 6 or 8. Here...

oppo 105 universal player vs a Rotel cd p[layer

I can't compare the 105 to a Rotel, but I prefer my Sony 5400ES for SACDs over the Oppo--it's a bit more spacious and detailed. EDIT: I recently hooked up my Oppo via the multi-channel analog outputs...hmmm...I think I prefer it to the Sony's HDMI sound! It's more present, warmer, and richer...

Parasound halo a51 or Emotiva Xpr-5?

Good choice! Don't let the A 51's warmth fool you: there is absolutely no lack of detail--it just doesn't exaggerate like some amps do.

Parasound halo a51 or Emotiva Xpr-5?

I have an 8801 paired with a Parasound A 51--it's a magical combo and easily drives my Theos. I know the Emotiva is less money, but it's false economy to buy cheap junk, only to have to replace it soon. Stick with the Parasound.

    Enough Power?

Yikes, I just realized that I never got back to thread after buying the Parasound A 51. In a nutshell, I love it! It definitely has plenty of headroom, and the overall warmer yet far more detailed sound than the Sony's is just amazing.

    Survey: hdmi and processor

My processor (Marantz 8801) has HDMI, but I connect my Oppo 105 via its multi-channel analog outs for music. It sounds far richer and warmer with no loss of detail. I use HDMI only when playing Blu-ray/DVD and my Tivo unit.

    Why Center at all??

The imaging is also much better if one listens to 5 channel classical SACDs with a center channel.

Debating amps for ML Theater Setup

I use a Parasound Halo A 51 with my Theos, Motif, and Definitive Technolgy rear speakers and love it! It's a huge step up from my previous Sony 6400ES receiver, that's for sure. This amp is warm, detailed, and can easily handle the difficult load that ML presents. It's also very reasonably priced.

    Theos are in!

My Theos sound much better now that I switched from a Sony ES 6400 AVR to a Marantz 8801 pre/pro and Parasound Halo A 51 amp. I switched to the amp first and noticed an immediate improvement in dynamics, headroom, and overall musical accuracy. The 8801 added further improvement through its...

True. I have Jerry Brown...no real shame yet! (And I just bet he can name all of the government agencies!)

    Why

I'm embarrassed to be a US citizen sometimes, especially over gun control. (I'm more for gun elimination...one can find pre-killed food in the grocery store.) However, it's not entirely the US as whole that's to blame since 90% at least support background checks. It's the monumental a$$holes in...

Exactly Why Vinyl Isn't The Future of Audiophilia

Right! The finest sound I have ever heard is when Peter McGrath, who engineered some of the recordings that Mark Levinson brought out years ago, brought his custom 30 i.p.s. two-track Studer tape deck to a local Mark Levinson dealer and played us some of the master tapes. Wow. Talk about...

    Sony SCDXA5400ES

After living with Oppo for a while, I decided to go back to my Sony for SACDs. Upon further experimentation, the Oppo sounds more detailed only through my headphones now that I have more revealing speakers (I had B&W 804's before). Plus, with a lot of SACDs, there is too much direct signal in...
