    New Summit XJR ?

So now we can look forward to a seemingly endless string of Spire vs. Summit XJR threads! :p

    Lifetime Service for MartinLogan Products

Let me add my voice to those congratulating ML on this excellent decision. I can now return to fantasizing about owning a pair of CLXs, a dream I gave up on when I heard that the company would not longer offer lifetime support.

    Minimum room size for Summits

Yes, I am moving to NC. Actually, I am renting a house there but have not yet put our Maryland house, which we love, on the market. Thanks for the advice, folks. I am still listening if anyone else would like to offer an opinion. I have the Summits in a temporary room now, something like 14' x...

    Minimum room size for Summits

We are moving and are just beginning to consider which house to buy. I have had my Summits in a room approximately 22' x 14', but--so far, anyway--I haven't found any homes that meet our other needs and also offer a dedicated listening room of this or greater size. So, how small is too small? At...

    Question about Stage Center....

I wondered that, too. Every once in a while I will use my Stage and forget to plug it in! I use it very seldom (hardly ever, in fact) and so don't keep it charged up constantly. It always reminds me when I forget by being hollow sounding.

I suggest a group order of panels

Obviously, I was considerig the possibility of buying a spare set of panels to keep in storage until that day, still long in the future, when the existing panels on my Summits need replacing. It doesn't make sense to do this if the prices (not to mention the company) are stable, but it could be...

I suggest a group order of panels

That raises an interesting question. What would the shelf life be of a pair of replacement panels that remained packed away? How long could they sit in storage and still function perfectly? There has to be some deterioration eventually, even if they are not being used, right?

    Need amp advice

Yes, that's essentially the same setup I have: a BAT tube preamp (VK-32SE) paired with a 400 wpc SS amp (McIntosh 402). Works like a charm.

New ML's Seen, Heard, and Liked

Yes, this is exactly how it often works. Another example is, of all things, Hamburger Helper (apologies to our fortunate friends overseas who have no idea what I am talking about). At one time, General Mills believed the way to increase the rate of sales was to offer more and more varieties of...

    Center image placement with Vantage/Spire/Summit

My setup produces a similar center image, although I'd say that two feet back is typical. To be honest, the single most attractive feature of my Summits is the depth, complexity and dimensionality of their center image, especially on well recorded vocals. It is the one thing that everyone...

Summit - How much better than the Vista?

There are a lot of very questionable ways to spend money in audio, but this isn't one of them. The difference in price is money well spent. Go with the Summits.

    Carver Amazings Vs Summits

That's true a lot of places. No one in my family or in my neighborhood or at my place of employment (etc.) has equipment costing one-tenth what my system cost, and it is modest by comparison to the really high-end stuff. There was a thread here some time ago on this topic. Few people appeared to...

    Carver Amazings Vs Summits

I had Amazing Silvers for several years and put them head to head against my Summits before finally selling them for a song. The Summits were significantly clearer and provided a more intoxicatingly holographic (nods to Bob Carver!) soundstage. I also own a Descent i, so I can't imagine wanting...

New Vantages need power amp. Krell KAV 250a?

Yes, we have enough MD/DC area folks here for our own sub-club. Welcome!

    3 D TV / 3 D Audio ~ What do you guys think?

In theory, I like the idea of 3D TV, but I would hate having to put on glasses every time I watched the tube. What a nuisance.

Integrating Summit X with Descent i

Yup, that's what works for me, although I sometimes run the crossover one notch higher. I'd say the Descent i integrates very well 80-90% of the time. On bass-heavy material, I simply turn the sub off. Otherwise, it's a great addition.

My System Is Better Than Yours Because...

Thanks. Very good. I wonder if the truth really goes something like this: What makes my system better? It's my system. There was a system that was nearly as good: the one it replaced. All else is spin...

    Helos 20 as a rear

I use a pair of Helos 100s for rear speakers mated with Helos 10s for side/rear speakers (Gallo Ref. 3.1's for L/R; ML Stage center; pair of ACI Titan subs). Works like a charm. I should mention that I have all of the Helos speakers in Dynabox enclosures, which make them less boomy.

    Vertical location of instruments

I have played with the rake angle from time to time, but I always come back to the current setting. I wasn't paying attention to the location of particular instruments in the process. When I get the chance, I'll experiment with it and see what happens. I should say that I actually like the way...
