The problem was not the Krell, but the Conrad Johnson pre amp. It does not suit the Krell. Looks like I need to get rid of the Con, and get something more suitable. The Conrad is a very good amp in its own right. It just slowed down the Krell.

Yes the pre was sitting on top of the offending power amp, but there is ventilation space. The other amps sit on top of each other with ventilation space. I have just seen a Krell KST100 for just under £1000. I am concidering this or a Croft Dakshini power amp.

Project RPM 10, and I am using the big isolation plinth as well. The slabs do help. I think the weakness here is the ATC)9 cartridge, it sounds hard at higher levels. My Spark Cayin CD player is great, very smooth sounding.
