CLX Upgrade: Things To Be Aware Of

Buy mine for 11k! Then you can afford replacement panels when/if that becomes an issue. :) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

    Martin Logan drawbacks/negatives?

Amps can be easily changed, too... and if you buy them used you can usually sell them for what you pay... so that makes it MUCH easier.

hey Boycer these are close to you... http://www.ebay.com/itm/PARASOUND-JC1-MONO-AMPLIFIERS-/290679664688?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43addbb030

I havent heard any other Parasound gear.

    Martin Logan drawbacks/negatives?

The Emotivas sound very balanced and neutral to me... I think the combo is a rediculously good value and anyone spending more on amps REALLY needs to hear it before deciding. Especially since Emotiva will let you return them after an in home trial. I use the Integra 80.2 pre-pro. I run long...

    Martin Logan drawbacks/negatives?

Parasound JC-1 mono amps are also a killer combo with the CLXs. I actually love the Emotiva XPA-1 monoblocks that I use with mine... no desire to change those if I were keeping the CLXs.

    Martin Logan drawbacks/negatives?

I agree... if you are just making your own rips, sure. When I am downloading from somewhere not always a choice though. From his question, it seemed like he also didnt know what to look for in a good MP3... that was what I was really getting at. Although... I put flac and mp3 320kbps files...

    Martin Logan drawbacks/negatives?

Good MP3 would be done with a program like Exact Audio Copy at 320kbps bit rate. 256 can sound fine too.

    Martin Logan drawbacks/negatives?

I listen to well made mp3's quite frequently on my CLXs with Submersive subs... love it! But yeah, if its a poorly made MP3..you want it out of there asap. But most of mine sound great! I am the one selling the ones he is talking about though :)! EDIT - you just mentioned...

    CLX Room Placement

If you can, try your subs with one at the front wall midpoint and one at rear midpoint. Or side wall midpoints. This is where the extensive research that Harman came up with as the theoretical best places for two subs for rectangular rooms. I have my Submersives in those spots with my CLXs...

How narrow is too narrow for CLXs?

The short answer to "why sell" is probably that I am a bit dumb. :) The long is that I have wanted for quite a while to have more of a true "theater" than a 2 channel room with a screen hung in the middle. This means a huge acoustically transparent screen (160" wide scope), hidden speakers...

How narrow is too narrow for CLXs?

I have a pair of CLXs in my current room that is about 17ft wide. I have an interested buyer that is trying to find feedback or real world examples of these being used in more narrow rooms. His room is about 12ft wide. He has no problem on depth and can get them 5-6 feet from the front wall...

Blending subs manually with phase control, etc vs Audyssey

Is it necessary to blend subs with main speakers using the sub controls still? Obviously sub positioning and number of subs is quite important, but I still see many people talking about blending the sub phase and crossover (like the special crossover on the Descent i for the CLX). I would...

Any other pre/pros other than Anthem D2v that I should even consider?

Keep in mind that its biased, since its the 80.2 owners thread, but these two comments give some Anthem vs Integra and specifically Audyssey vs ARC. I have never personally heard ARC or any Anthem gear. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=20865586#post20865586

Any other pre/pros other than Anthem D2v that I should even consider?

Dont discount the Integra as being "not reference gear" without giving it a thorough check. No problem if you dont like it but it could save you quite a bit of cash and be every bit as good as others you have mentioned. Gear that has a "high end" pedigree often just serves to part you with...

Any other pre/pros other than Anthem D2v that I should even consider?

Another vote for Integra 80.2 (or 80.3 which would be likely to be announced sometime soon -- I have no knowledge of it...its just normal for integra to refresh late in the year). I have the 80.2 with Emotiva amps and CLXs... lovin it.

Best Martin Logan center channel for AT screen?

The 116" wide screen is the screen I have now. It is a high power 16:9 screen. I want to go to 160" wide Enlightor 4k screen from http://www.seymourscreenexcellence.com/fixedframes.asp

Best Martin Logan center channel for AT screen?

Yep two subs put in those exact locations is what I was thinking. I will start keeping an eye on the used or demo / blemish Spire market.
