    Sequel II panel repair

How is the quality of his work? Also, what kind of turnaround time have you experienced?

    Sequel II panel repair

I have a panel that needs to repaired or replaced. I was wondering if I could get feedback from those who have had Russ Knotts @ ESL Repair work on their panels. Russ sounds like he knows alot about electrostats.

    DIY Cable Lifters

Nice work Brad. I've known about this tweak but never did it since I didn't know how to make the "cable lifters."

    Recomended Surge & Line Conditioners?

That's an interesting system especially with the play station as the source. Line conditioning does help a great deal. RF degrades audio big time. Digital things such as play stations and cd players radiate alot of RF. Because of that some people, including me, use separate line...

Ever see a Silver/Gold ceramic casing Audiophile Fuse?

The reason I asked is because, as many of you have commented, the AudioAsylum is often full of nonsense. I was wondering what someone here experienced with the fancy fuses. Anyway, back to the Asylum: I don't think you should dismiss the entire forum. Some, like Al Sekela and Unclestu52...

    CLS I Tweaks

I was wondering if any of you noticed any difference. I suspect you will. I also would like to know if any of you considered the Alpha-Core Goertz stuff.

Ever see a Silver/Gold ceramic casing Audiophile Fuse?

Has anybody tried either of these on their MLs yet? I'm seriously considering it.

    LCD vs Plasma

I have to agree with Hauger92. Plasma is tops when it comes to picture quality. It destroys LCD with respect to color, contrast, and blurring. LCD is terrible with shades of black. LCD is at its best when viewing static pictures or travel programs; Plasma is much better for sports and...

    CLS I Tweaks

I wish I knew how to solder and build stuff. My tweaking is a pretty limited. Nevertheless, I can tell you this: replace those metal screws holding down your inductor coils with nylon screws. It will make a big difference. You might also want to solder a .47uF capacitor between the hot and...

    Sequel 2 restoration

I'm curious to see how your experiment works out. BTW--attach a ferrite bead to the wires feeding the panels. It'll clean up the panel a bit. BTW2--Do you remember the voltage values of the electrolytics? I replaced the 100 uF ones over 10 years ago and was pleased with the change. I am...

    Recap my crossovers........hmmmmm

I agree with the jjcarr regarding the Solen caps, especially with respect to the 15 uF caps. At a minimum, use a higher grade cap, e.g., Auricap, Hovland. There are alot of good brands out there. The larger cap values are another issue. Are you sure the new 100 uF and 270uF caps will fit? I...

    Recap my crossovers........hmmmmm

Large caps? Do you mean the polypropylenes or the electrolytics? I did replace the 100uF with a Black Gate. It helped alot. I also replaced the polypropylene and also got positive results. There is a 270(?)uF that I would like to replace but its a difficult value to find.

    NuForce

If you're considering the Nuforce, check out David Magnan's comments and tweaks. If you are familiar with his cable, you'll know that his tastes veer to the musical. BTW--His DIY line conditioners are the best thing you can do for your system. http://www.magnan.com/nuforce.html

    NuForce

Chris, If you decide to go the solid state amp route, you should consider a tube preamp. ML speakers tend to be on the analytical side. If you want solid state, Plinius is a good choice. I was impressed with the amp's ability to reproduce timbre--not many solid state amps do that. You may...

    NuForce

If you don't get a response here, I would try audioasylum.com. If I were looking for an amp, I would definitely consider the Nuforce. David Magnan discusses how he would modify them to make them even better on his tweaks website. Trust me: Magnan knows what he's doing.

    Great cheap tweak

With the availability of spec/hospital grade plugs and IECs like the marincos, you can build your own power cords. The cost of a plug and an IEC is $27-$30 total, no soldering required. All you need to do is find wire. If you want to go really cheap, buy romex from an electrical supply store...

    Great cheap tweak

If you have an older power cord, i.e., one without the Marinco/Kimber IEC, you owe it to yourself to replace the old iec on the cord with a Marinco or Kimber IEC. If you have a newer after-market power cord, chances are your cord has the Marinco or Kimber IEC.

    Great cheap tweak

I assure you that better mechanical connections and materials make a difference. Buy a spec or hospital grade ac outlet for $6 at Home Depot and swap out that standard outlet. I think most of you will hear the difference. BTW--Most stock power cords are 18 gauge wire with 3 conductors...

    Great cheap tweak

I think you guys are confusing power tweaks with cabling. Power is another matter. Good electrical conductivity makes a serious difference and is not a matter of taste like cabling. I suggest that if you are skeptical that you replace your household ac outlet with a hospital or spec grade...

    Great cheap tweak

Better materials, better mechanical connection (clamping), cryogenic treatment.
