I bought a used pair of sequels 2 and after listening to them for the past week. I have to say that the sound is "good" and I am very happy with them.
When I did buy them I knew I would have to invest some time and money in restoring them. I decided once the speakers were apart I would upgrade them as well.

Heres a list in what I am about to do:

1. Replace oem capacitors and upgrade the important ones to Kimber cap

2. Wash the electrostaic panels with water

3. Strengthen the woofer cabinets by putting in more braces and making
the cabinet walls more rigid

4. Applying Dampening material on the woofer, and coating the woofer
with PL400

5. removing half of the mineral wool from the woofer cabinets

6. Adding spikes to the bottom of the speaker cabinets

7. Applying anti vibration damping material to the inside walls where the
electrostaic panel is secured to.

As I go along I will post Pics with my progress.

I'm curious to see how your experiment works out. BTW--attach a ferrite bead to the wires feeding the panels. It'll clean up the panel a bit.

BTW2--Do you remember the voltage values of the electrolytics? I replaced the 100 uF ones over 10 years ago and was pleased with the change. I am asking because I think I should get a replacement as caps get old after awhile.

I'm not familiar with Kimber caps, but have had great results using Black Gate caps in my DAC. Very expensive, but worth it.
