The optical door on my PS Audio DL3 broke and I took it in for service. I alway wondered whether it really made a difference in my 2 channel listening.
Well, the answer is a definite yes. The system is almost unlistenable (at least for critical listening) without the DAC. I run my Oppo via coax, my AppleTV2 via optical and my MacBook Air via USB. My preference is the USB.
Thank goodness for BluRay.. sound is absolutely awesome. It will just be background music until I get the DAC back.
On another note.. anyone have any opinions on the 'audiophile' USB cables. I'm looking at getting the Wireworld Ultraviolet as it seems to be the most cost effective.. Would love to try a few (Kimber, Audioquest) but cannot find a dealer nearby that stocks them.. plus they're outrageously expensive for a 5 meter length.
