Been playing with this little jewel for a few
days now, it's fantastic!

Sounded great at CES, but not my stuff, my room, my music, etc.
But now that I've had a little time with it, it's a home run.

Pretty much limited by the quality of DAC you use it with. Started
out with the Benchmark, moved to the Supernait in the living room
and back out to the big system, with the Wadia 521 DAC. Gives the
581i a run for it's money. Of course the big player does SACD and
is still the last word in ultimate transparency, but it's head and shoulders
above a lot of 5000 dollar CD players I've heard.

Sneak peek in issue 14 (feb) full review in issue 15 (apr)

If you have any interest in one of these, get an order in now, the first few
production runs are going to sell out right away!!!

Is this made with a machined aluminum casing like the rest of the Wadia line?

I have a Wadia and this would be a nice addition as a transport. Not that it would be a deal breaker but does it have the glass optical digital output? Can you post a photograph? The picture on the website looks like a cartoon or an AutoCad drawing.

Craig, the 170 is made out of aluminum like the rest of the Wadia line...

It does not have the glass optical out, only coax. You are correct, the current image is a CAD illustration. We will only have a front 3/4 image in this issue,
as it is a "sneak peek" with a final prototype.

The real deal is going to ship in about three weeks and we will have a full review in the April issue, with more photos as soon as they get the back
of the unit finalized...

Hope that helps!

I dont know about a must have but it could be a nice addition for casual listening. the price is $349.00 said to be shipping the end of March.
