ML Model(s): Original Summits then Summit X {With Manufacturer Blue LED's}

Year Purchased: 2010

Mods/Changes: None

Associated Electronics:
* Amplifiers: Perreaux Prisma 750 MonoBlocks
* Preamp: Perreaux SM6 MkII
* Dac : PS Audio
* Sub: JL Audio Fathom 112
* Dedicated 20 Amp Service (5) 1 per amp, 1 for sub, 1 for speakers and 1 for Misc
* Squeezebox Duet (2 controllers)
* Dedicated Sony PC {+4 TB} for Flac/Wave & Video Library control {No MP3's}
* 1100 CD's {I took a job in a music store and was one of the first to open the delivery of "CD's"
* Sony Bravia 3D / 1080p 240Hz LED HDTV

** and a bunch of the usual misc. stuff

Previously, I could use a large dedicated room with hardwood floors etc but improved a new location with carpet and doors. The doors provide a very unique capability to change the acoustics of the back wall. Door on Right opens in, Middle & Left swing out

Comments and/or stories about your Martin Logan experience:
Well.... this started about 25 years ago with a homemade speaker setup that used several partial speakers, "super tweeters" etc to try to recapture the accidental 3d acoustic image of Van Halen {it was one of those - as real as it gets vocals that only lasted for part of the song}

After that, I purchased one of the 1st CD players in the state - a brushed aluminum yamaha CD 2, to go with a Yamaha amp with 10 watts of toggled Class A power

After the Yamaha adventure,
Carver caught my attention including 1.5T amp, sonic hologram generator etc ,

Went crazy with DBX including 4 DBX Soundfield 1's speakers, 3BX, 4BX etc

Then Polk fascination with the Signature Reference Series, {But wanted the ML Monolith}

Then Krell, Perreaux 2150, 3150, Denon rosewood direct drive table, etc etc.

Today, this has evolved to what you see here,,, heavy with Perreaux infrastructure coupled to the precision/demands of Martin Logan Summit X's

Its been a fun ride.....:rocker:

Much Respect!

Greg, Welcome, nice looking rig. Given your paneling situation have you thought about acoustic treatments ? I suspect corner bass loading anomolies...... maybe ?? your pic looks as if there is no toe-in on your speakers, do you sit that far back ? I'm not being critical here, merely pointing out areas I beleive will yield you even better sound !

BTW, another fan of 'New Zealand' amplification here as well !

A good suggestion

I finally took a weeks vacation and spent 2 days just trying diffferent positions until I hit the 'spot'.

The toe in is minimal but what is kind of interesting is the impact of door position.

(For the photo, i just closed the doors)

For critical listening, I optimized & marked the door(s) open/close configuration to affect the acoustics.

Basically, a door completely 'open' eliminates all reflection in that zone {The right speaker/reflection was the most problematic but opening the corresponding door is akin to eliminating a large section of the reflection.)

For the other doors I can direct the reflections based on the slightest or extreme angle the door is positioned to

But most importantly, even after all the tweaking.... these speakers have the capability to sound even better and additional room treatments is an area I need to improve on.

Best Regards

Welcome Greg! As a Summit-X owner (well, very recently x Summit-X owner) I can relate, at least a little, to the wondrous sounds you must be getting there in your room. You should patent your door-o-matic-acoustical-image-reconfigurator. ;)

Seriously though, that's a very cool macro-adjustment feature for the room... I have a similar situation in my 2-channel setup - in my case, with large windows... but it's pretty cold in Maine these days, so it's more of a fair-weather tweak here. Although, the wood louver shades actually work great as diffusors.

Anyway, great system, welcome again, and I'm secretly jealous of the down-firing blue-leds... (mine were the... yawn... boring white LEDs)

Gentlemen,

Thank you for the comments but I am humbled & amazed by your systems!!

They should be moved into their own section called "Speaker Porn" !!

It is still a suprise sometimes that it is just waiting at home{and no airbrushing needed}.

Its a long way from the extension cords for 'speaker' wire, supertweeters, torn woofers, missing speakers & plugging ports with socks to improve tuning etc

Much Respect - It takes so much more than just $$ to create what you have. {and in other systems I have seen here}

Hi Greg... thanks for the kind words... and certainly an adroit analogy (re: naughty voyeurism).

Here's my actual dedicated 2-channel setup... please, no autographs...
