Too bad (for all of us) that McConnell and his minions are a bunch of shameful pinheads who only care to ensure the super-rich are well taken care of.

Yes, it is refreshing to see that Obama caters to the poor and the middle class. Why at $40,000 a seat to attend his recent birthday bash, I don't know why I didn't purchase enough tickets for an evening out with my family. Would have been fun to mingle in with those of more modest means for once:).

You mean his "hip hop BBQ", as the racist FOX News called it? As usual, you play loose with the facts to support your own version of events, Kevin. Admission to the party was only $200, and a premium seat went for a $1,000. If you wanted VIP seating, and dinner with Obama himself, that ran you $38,000. And none of that is any different than any other president has done in the last few decades. They all sell their personal time for campaign dollars.

The difference is whether they are fighting for tax cuts for the rich (repubs) or quality health care for everyone (dems) once they get in office. It's pretty clear who is looking out for the fat cats and who is looking out for the little guy. The republicans want to balance the budget solely on the backs of the middle class and poor while preserving the lowest taxation rates in our history on corporations and the rich. And how are those tax cuts working out for us? Bush and his cronies promised economic prosperity if we just quit taxing those "job creators"! NOT!

Yes- the hip hop BBQ. The one that a Politico story referenced as having guests dancing to hip hop songs in the White House, which is what inspired the Fox name for the event. By "fat cats" Rich, are you referencing Wall Street workers which donated towards Obama's campaign by an almost 2 to 1 margin? Before next years election, this adminstration had better be able to point towards something good they have done to talk about. Right now, all they seem to be capable of is blaming others. Blame it on Bush, blame it on the Tea Party, blame it on the weather, Fox news, Wall Street, millionaires so on and so on. I guess that since last years, "Summer of Recovery", didn't work out so well, they figured this summer would be the, "Summer of Blame". In two and half years we have gone from "Hope and Change" to "Mope and Blame". At least they can always say that they didn't tell us wether it was going to be good change or bad!

When obama came in jobs were being lost at over 700000 per month. Now they are gaining over 100000. That's a positive delta of 800000 jobs a month.

Was that the kind of change are you upset about?

Yes, it seems republicans have a short memory when it comes to the malfeasance of their own party, while expecting instant miracles from the other party. It took us eight years to get into this mess, but you expect Obama to fix it in two? And when the republicans are opposing everything he tries to do? Right.

Actually, Obama and Boehner had a pretty grand compromise worked out to reduce our debt long term in a balanced manner, which would have been good for our country. But that was trashed when the republicans allowed their party to be hijacked by the teabaggers. As long as the republicans allow the most extreme and ignorant to rule their party, this nation is in trouble, both economically and otherwise.

Short memory? I seem to recall hearings in 2004 concerning problems with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the mortgage giants, and democrats including Barney Frank and Maxine Waters saying that there was absolutely nothing wrong. Didn't one dem even say that the investigations being done amounted to a "lynching" of Fannie Mae CEO, Franklin Raines? How about a comparison of the first six years under Bush compared to the last two when democrats took control of congress?

Even then, we (The Country) had to contend with the worst president in history... I would have to research to see if there is any merit to your comments about the dems and fannie mae, but, yeah, Raines was a bad guy. But. more to the point, why is it that republicans seem so hell-bent on crushing any citizens who are anything other than super-rich?

Because they appear to be convinced that the rich (whether it be individuals or corporations) will dutifully and patriotically take all that cashola and re-invest it in American jobs. Right, the uber-rich have no desire to keep making record profits by leveraging massive tax breaks and abysmal overseas working conditions for their own bottom line. Look at almost any huge company and tell me that's not the case.

It's insane, greedy, and so mind-numbingly UNPATRIOTIC that it borders on treason. Of course anything short of this would be socialism... so there you have it.

That Fox news piece was unbelievably offensive.

I am unbelievably offended by this Administration, Congress , and Senate.

I know I cant be the only one who thinks that both major parties are failures and BOTH put partisanship above doing whats right for the people and this republic.

I see people trying to defend one party or the other when they both are doing a substandard job. I think we deserve better.

Obama is the only individual on the hill that actually acts like an adult (comparetively speaking). Problem is, he 's too kum-ba-yah - always trying to reach across the aisle rather than showing strong, decisive leadership. He allows broken compromises and can't (seem) to negotiate his way out of a paperbag. I believe he has nothing but the country's best interest at heart... he just can't get there from here.

Dysfunction is where it's at inside the beltway - no question. As someone said before, this country is ripe for a third party. Over-ripe.

Another theme I see surfacing a bit lately - we've all collectively lost our spirit and imagination for the future. I thought Neal DeGrass Tyson did a good job capturing this problem on Maher the other night... but that's probably best saved for another thread (though this thread's main discussion point and the imagination problem are quite closely interrelated IMO).
