there has been a lot of room treatment discussion recently - and i'm still agaw at Jon's new room - but MCT's comments on sharing the music room with the living/family/whatever room preventing "room treatments" had me think.

there are a lot of techniques to treating a room. some of the multi-surface reflective approaches look pretty groovy to me, but in general, traps and panels are a hard sell to the other people sharing that room (and sometimes a hard sell to ourselves).

but there are a lot of tricks with things like pillows and rugs and bookshelves that can go a long way towards treating a room without traps and panels. i had a nasty bass chamber down the left side of my room that a couple of stacked soft footstools fixed up. i could put a trap there, but these get most of the job done.

i guess that's what i'm thinking. traps and panels can get you 100% there, but other treatments can get you 80% there with only 20% of the intrusion.

what other tricks and techniques do we have up our collective sleeves to help out people like MCT who want to get more from his Logan's without getting less from his marriage :)

Alan (sleepsurf) has found a few things by GIF? (don't quote me) acoustics that fit in with the decore. They sell tables and other things that look like furniture.

GIK Acoustics http://www.gikacoustics.com and Ethan's RealTraps http://www.realtraps.com are offering some new decor-friendly treatment options, that aren't just the usual panels. I recently bought a GIK Pillar Trap and one of their new Table Traps, for my family/listening room, and added acoustic panels from American Micro Industries http://www.soundprooffoam.com/soft-sound-acoustic-panels.html (which offered more fabric options than most others). Ready Acoustics and ATS Acoustics are other low-priced panel vendors offering some nice fabric options. You can also use silk trees in various locations for sound diffusion, and woven wall tapestries for additional absorption. I'll post updated room pics on my system page this weekend.
