Hi All,

Running a Sumo preamp/B&K125.2 amp to a new pair of ML Puritys. "new" as in they were sitting in a sealed box in someones basement for a while. He won them in a raffle at a TV station and never opened the box.

So after hooking up with some 12 gauge wire, I listened for a few hours. I understand 'break in', but they still are pretty amazing for my first ES speakers.

But.... later, I noticed one panel wasnt on - red light flashing, but woofers woofering.... Make a long story short, it doesnt seem to be anything about the amp - whether I use speaker inputs or line input to the onboard amp, swapping left or right channel inputs, this one speaker is acting badly.

However, after fussing a bit with unplugging it, it showed me a nice blue light again, and it played flawlessly for another few hours, until I turned off the system. Then, once again, it wouldnt 'boot up'.

I have an email into ML. Hopefully they can help me out. Any other ideas while I wait?

Thanks guys, looks like a nice forum.

So I have another question - (gee I wish I had read more before I bought these) - if I wire my amp to the purity, its actually NOT using my amp to drive the signal? Rather it's attenuating it to the point where it can be fed to the internal amp???

Hi elader and welcome.

I assume you done the typical "switching" to isolate the issue to that speaker.

Assuming you have, sounds like a power supply issue or a "loose" internal connection.

Good news is that it should be easy to repair in house.

Hola You can drive them with your Ipad, Ipod or Iphone. You do not need an amplifier to drive them. They have built in an internal digital amplifier on each speaker of 200 Watts!. Happy listening.

Hi Gorden,

Yea, it's independant of input L/R, line/speaker wire, power outlet. Hopefully its trivial. Wife is glowering at me.

Roberto, I recently bought a very nice amp - is there NO advantage of this over line level input from the preamp? I guess I can sell the amp... :-(
which will result in more wife glowering....

I think that the amp will be there doing nothing. Some users here had claimed that the sound of the amp is reflected at the end, but honestly, I do not think so. Your Purities are a wonder. I do not know why Martin Logan discontinued the model. For the price, and the sound quality, it is a bargain. I think that was the reason. To make them, their cost on these days, are very expensive to build them. And do not worry about the wife. Just with the money saved at the power amp, buy her a nice present, them you can buy a lot of music and videos, right? Happy listening!

Additional speaker level inputs give Purity the flexibility to work with receivers or other equipment that might not have a line-level pre-amp out option

Well I opened up the unit and there was a very loose wire semi-attached to the board on the back of the speaker. A single pretty thick wire with a spade lug. So now that is firmly attached. Speaker started up and plays (good) but the panel is VERY quiet ... (Bad). I feel like I did something as the issue has changed in nature.... But arggghhh!

All solved. For some reason two stout wires connect to the board on the back of the speaker with dinky push on spades. Both were stupidly loose. Life is good now, very Martin Logan good.
