Since you are from Colorado, which way do you think Colorado will go? It used to be a solid red state, but now seems purple.

Also, what 's the chance of extracting oil in Colorado?

No worries, I wasn't taking it personal.

As for Colorado I really don't know, seems purple on the surface. With the DNC having it's venue in Colorado there is extra democratic visibility here in the city. We are experiencing lots of political ads on the TV, as I am sure most are. But, I seem to meet mostly republican minded folks. Then of course there is always Boulder, CO (25 square miles surrounded by reality), which is very liberal. An example, in Boulder you can not own a pet; you are the animal's guardian.

Again, I am not a petroleum expert. But, my Uncle and several friends graduated from our "Colorado School of Mines" with petroleum backgrounds. I am sure if it is here, then they have plans for getting it out.

Funny, I was always under the impression that there is no such thing as reverse discrimination. Either your being discriminated or your not.

Why does being rich, white or straight make it reversed?

Lee

You're exactly right...it's just a colloquialism for discrimination against an empowered party.

Here's a story about some farmers worldwide that all have something in common:
Six cows, a wife, and kids.

In the communist country, the government came in and shot five cows, took the sixth, shot the wife, sent the kids to "re-education centers" and sentenced the farmer to one year hard labor for being a western spy. And his farm was burned to the ground and he was sent to a collective farm after his stint in the gulag.

In the socialist country, the government came and took five cows, left him one and put him into a 95% tax bracket, and was monitored by the secret police for several years because he didn't declare the cows.

In the national socialist country, the government took all his cows, took his family away because his wife had some Jewish ancestry and sent them to a concentration camp, and installed an army barracks on his farm.

In what might be tomorrows America, the government came and took five cows for carbon credits, humanely euthanized the sixth for methane emissions, declared eminent domain on his property and sold it to a developer, arrested the farmer and his wife for homeschooling their kids, and sent the kids to "protective custody".

In what has historically been America and still mostly is, the farmer sold two cows and bought a bull.

Now if that doesn't lighten things up, nothing will!:D:p

lol I like it

• In the 10 reddest states, in which Bush got more than 60 percent majorities, the average percentage of personal income donated to charity was 3.5. Residents of the bluest states, which gave Bush less than 40 percent, donated just 1.9 percent.

I would bet these donations are higher not becaue they are donating their money to AIDS research but rather to their church. Red southern conservatives seem to think the democrats want to take their god away from them. All I want to do is get their god out of our government.

I am not religious at all...but I venture to say that churches spend a lot of their money on programs that are very beneficial to the communities they exist in. Do you disagree? Does it really matter that it has a religious affiliation if people are donating their own money to it? Once again...you should have the right to choose how to be charitable.

It's not like there aren't plenty of secular organizations that non-religious types (or liberals, going off that assumption) could donate to, if the religious thing is so offputting. It's still telling that they donate almost double, no?

You want their god out of government...and they want your government out of their wallet :p

I assume folks have expressed their honest opinions without being flamed, so here is mine.

I agree that Obama needs some work.

I also firmly believe that the last thing this country needs now is another old white guy that wants to fight wars and give rich people tax breaks.

So for me, the choice is easy.

However, in Wyoming, my vote means nothing since this State has been and will likely remain a red state.

However, I am proud to say that the County I live in, Teton County, is the only one out the 23 in the State that has voted for a "blue" guy in a presidential election.

Anyone have any thoughts about the electoral college and how "votes" are determined to decide the winner in a presidential election.

I think it sucks for the above formentionned reason.

Cheers ML Amigos.

[Edited to avoid hurting the tone]

Electoral college...made more sense back when states were much more powerful as entities than they are now. As much as the electoral college has helped out "my side," I do agree that it's antiquated considering the shift of the balance of power to the federal government.

As I remember from history class, the whole point of having the house/senate memberships made up as they are (which is related to the electoral votes) was so that population mattered, but that each state, no matter its size, was granted a reasonable voice. But...as I said...I think it's antiquated.

Walker, your twisting peoples words. Not only that, you're fear-mongering many of the issues and promoting divisiveness in the society as a whole.

And taxes ? Check your facts. http://blog.washingtonpost.com/fact-checker/2008/06/mccain_vs_obama_on_taxes.html

That's a good article on it. I don't know how any of it is fearmongering. Obama's approaches to health-care, and energy are essentially just to throw a LOT of government money at it. That money has to come from somewhere...and he's made it clear that he wants to raise the taxes on dividends as well as remove the social security cap (that's a 12% bump right there) . His reason for wanting to raise the capital gains tax rate, even though empirical evidence suggests it would likely lower tax revenues....he thinks it'd be more "fair." (the topic is addressed in an article linked below below)

As an aside...I could have it wrong with the social security cap...I believed he just wanted it removed...but the chart makes it seem like he wants it reinstated above 250k? I'll have to read more on the subject. Still...significant tax hikes. The Capital Gains one is most scary to me, from a macroeconomic perspective.

http://www.taxfoundation.org/blog/show/23137.html

that's a transcript of Obama's discussion of the topic of capital gains taxes...as well as a bit of interesting commentary at the bottom.

I re-read everything I wrote and can't see how any of it was fear-mongering...so I figure at this point it's best if I stop posting and walk away.

And I'm out, folks. Thanks for the discussion.

Oh man, tomorrow's America got me rolling. I don't care who you are that is good stuff.

Just a few questions...

Is torture a good American policy? Dick? John?

Is polititicising (sp?) everything from the Judiciary to Homeland Security to F.E.M.A or Fill in the Blank a good way to bring all Americans together to solve the biggest challenges that we face as a country? Karl?

Is it not Treason to out a Covert C.I.A. Agent? Dick?

I do have a lot more questions, but now I have a great sounding stereo system and these things that I can't change don't bother me as much as they used to.

I seems pretty sure that most of us know who we will be voting for this November. and it didnt take 10 days of discussion. I also wonder about the "undecided" I doubt that most of them are they just dont want to disclose their vote.

Just a couple days ago Obame solved the oil shortage without drilling a single well in America. Why couldnt a Republican figure that out?

Listen carefully.

Just want to toss a few things out here. IWalker you had a lot of good points.

I basically have socialized health care. I have been sick for a week and have not gone in because it is impossible to get an appointment. (usually at least 3 weeks or more just to get an opening) For my job, we do have a daily sick call where you go in and wait for a few hours to get seen by a random doctor for treatment. So, not TOO bad (but I am not on the bottom rung of our little class system either) so at least I have that.

For any special treatment (other than common cold type stuff) you have to get a referral to a specialist. This process usually takes 4-6 weeks before you are seen by the specialist.

I just remember growing up with REAL health insurance and getting seen by the doctor whenever and just calling a specialist on the phone and scheduling an appointment myself.

It is nice under socialized healthcare to actually have it. BUT, the quality is no where near what you get with competitve systems. If I had a choice, I would stick with a system not controlled by the government and where working people who contribute more can get superior treatment.

I am still undecided between Obama and McCain as of right now. Hopefully the debates will help and as we get closer I can finally make up my mind.

Saddleback Debate

Anybody want to comment on the debate? Did anybody hear Obama's comment about when he would use American Military force? His comment was that he supported the use of American troops in Bosnia to prevent genocide. Genocide in Bosnia? I believe that was our mission in Kosovo. Bosnia was after the peace accords in Ohio and it was a peacekeeping mission. They are both in the Balkans, but a presidential candidate? That was a pretty big deal in the nineties.

A Billion to rebuild Georgia not the one in America

Now Barak is supporting a bill By Joe Biden for a BILLION dollars to help with the rebuilding of Georgia after the invasion by Russia, What did we have to do with that?
