Actually there are snowblowers mounted to locomotives for clearing train tracks...:

Peter, Good day, nice shot !! We railroaders refer to those as 'Rotarys'

they are totally self sufficent, the diesel locomotive is used only to push it.

The originals of the last century were steam powered, there now diesel.

The pic below is of a steam powered version used on the Cumbres & Toltec ex DRGW Narrow Guage between Chama,NM and Antonito,Co.

Amazing!......

Chicago could use some of those truck blowers- Let me tell you walking in the city sometimes with snow on the ground, well it ain't a piece of cake. And we ARE called the WINDY CITY AS WELL!!!

Amazing.

Here`s also a way to get rid of snow on the tracks here in Norway :)

Viking, Those are some GREAT Shots !!!!! Love the train pics, I actually got to watch a Rotary in action once, mighty impressive. The shot inside the house reminds me of when I was a kid living outside of Syracuse, NY, we had a mere 110" snowstorm(Feb 1966)and could only get out of the house via the second floor windows !

Glad I don't live in Norway! YEOW! Imagine trying to get a wheelchair through all that! NOT!
