    ClSII to CLSIIA crossover

In the CLSIIZ, there's not so many parts to change so I will surely try it. Building something point to point wiring 'on the air' would be simple and fast. If it is better, as stated, I'll use a teflon board to do it permanently. This is not for having an easier load for the amp. It is just a...

    ClSII to CLSIIA crossover

Finally I will buy teflon boards and do CLIIZ point to point crossover. I'll probably separate the two transformer primary wiring to do bi wiring.

    ClSII to CLSIIA crossover

Thanks for your reply Yes I thought upgrading caps and resistors . I'm not a fan of Solen caps and there's many in the crossover. Before doing Mods I would really like to have someone who has done the CLSII mod to IIA tell me if the IIA is really better. As for the bass, I use a Descent I sub...

    ClSII to CLSIIA crossover

Hello I have all the instructions to do this task but before doing it I want to know if someone has done this mod. In fact, about sound, is it really better . What will I hear different from CLS!! to CLSIIA mod ? I could ask the same question from CLSIIA to CLSIIZ crossover but I read that the...

    Bi amping CLSII

As my amp has an input capacitor, I could just use a higher value and adjust it to get 60 hz high pass filter. This would be 6 db/oct slope. I suspect they don't use top quality caps in the Parts Express in line crossover. By it's small size, it will probably have an electrolytic capacitor.

    Bi amping CLSII

I already have a Descent I sub which works below 60 hz but I don't use any hi pass crossover with the CLS.

    Bi amping CLSII

I am wondering if someone tried to bi amp CLSII This should be easy to do by separating the inputs + and - of the two transformers and feeding each with a different amplifier. Thanks.

    The ohms Trick

I finally used an 'old' Classe DR15 which was recapped with my CLSII. These amps are indestructible and superbly well made. My Melos Single ended 75W mono blocks can drive the CLSII but treble is lacking. The mids are glorious. I will probably adjust the caps paralleled on the negative feedback...

10 years ago, I also had horns. An Onken with Altec 1005B and a JBL2405. All was triamplified with single ended triodes. I loved the easy efficiency but this system was 'fast' and (too) intransigent with music. if the recordings were not the best, you knew it fast and you had to listen another...

Today was the day to try the setup. After fiddling with the placement, I finally placed them in the room with the calculations ML recommend. After, I adjusted the Descent I sub cut off frequency and phase with pink noise + analyser. The Descent I goes to 80 hz with the CLSII in my room...

Here are picts of the CLS I have to place in my listening room. They have to dethrone my 3A Reference 2002 which were the best combination of planar and cone speakers. I loved them. Also a pict of my system. More on that after 24 hours of powering the CLS in the 120V

Yes, I got them last week I repaired the frame of one speaker which had an open wood joint and I installed them in the wood frame I had with them. They're powered in the 120 V since 8h00 yesterday. I will position them today and I will probably do my first listening tonight.

    CLSII potential newer buyer

One of the biggest problem with these amps is bad contacts with output tube sockets. If you ever buy 6P45S, carefully clean the pins. These tubes are NOS (new old stock) and pins are often badly corroded,

    CLSII potential newer buyer

Output tubes for the Melos are still easy to find if you buy Russian 6P45S military tubes. There are Ukrenian sellers on eBay. I can attest Svetlana, OTK sounds good and are rugged tubes. Ham radio peoples still use 6KG6/EL519/EL509/6P45S so that's why they could be hard to find someday.

    CLSII potential newer buyer

After many hours (or days) working on these beasts, they never broke. I bought a 6P45S batch to be sure I could be safe for years. Presently, I drive speakers which have 91 db/1W/1M with them. I always have a really low residual hum. Did you have this problem ? If you ever see parts for these...

    CLSII potential newer buyer

Hello Woof Let me tell you. Using these Melos was sometimes a nightmare. First. I had to draw the schematics because nobody has them in the world. The output sockets develop bad contacts so I had to change them. The circuit board heat so much so it blackened in some places. This means...

    CLSII potential newer buyer

I will get my CLSII Monday. I will finally use a Classe DR15 amp. Presently, I have a Goldmund Job225 which is not supposed to do the task to drive the CLS!!. I also have mono blocks Melos single ended triodes SE-75 which deliver 75W each. Each amp has 4 X 6KG6 / EL509 . Being in single ended...

    CLSII potential newer buyer

Here are the two panels serial numbers. Do someone can give me if they are original or they were changed By the way, I made an error. I have a Descent I sub not a Depth I Thanks

    CLSII potential newer buyer

As for the amp, I would use a venerable Classe DR3 VHC which has only have 45 W/C at 8 ohm, 90W/C at 4 ohm and 360W/C at 1 ohm. I suppose this monster could drive easily the CLS.
