    Clx vs clsiiz

If you mean sit on the long wall, the only issue I've had with the CLS speakers is if you get to close to them, the tweeter becomes harder to integrate with the mid-bass. But if you mean with his existing configuration, with the tweeters on the inside, since they are the source of...

    Clx vs clsiiz

Thanks for the heads up, Bernard. To date I've not heard a better speaker combo, although I'm not a huge fan of the soundstage-collapsing effects of a single sub. The first thing I'd do if I were voicing this system would be to put the audio components on a side wall. Get them away from...

Jim Smith Get Better Sound DVD

Just happened to see this post. If the info was on the Internet, I wouldn't have taken the time to write it. I could list well over a dozen Internet "truths" that are simply incorrect, and I do so in seminars and in the book & DVD. Umm, and I never mentioned bronze bowls. :rolleyes...

    System #204 (Vantage)

Someone like Richard Vandersteen or Richard Hardesty would frown on this practice. Yet it is very common, even in the famous (expensive) US speaker line that gets rave reviews. It has little or nothing to do with soundstage. Often, the chosen crossover slope and/or any out of band...

    System #204 (Vantage)

On Glen's Vantages, M-L uses metal jumpers. They cannot be switched to reverse polarity. So, as a test, you'd have to make up a short set of jumpers, using wire. Since the subs are hard-wired, I'd reverse the leads from the sub terminals to the screens. But this will reverse the acoustic...

    System #204 (Vantage)

Yes, the phase inversion is 180. It's a 2nd order 12 dB/octave slope, at about 400Hz. I don't feel comfortable saying more at this point. Not enough info. They did give us permission to try inverting the screens. So we'll eventually see/hear. So the bottom line will be a real world test...

    System #204 (Vantage)

Just checked with Martin-Logan. They say that the Vantage woofer is actually intended to be in inverted acoustic polarity to the screens. So the speakers are operating as M-L intended.

    System #204 (Vantage)

Hope it's OK to reply in this thread. I'm not Glen's "sound guy." At least I don't think of it that way. I've never sold - or tried to sell - him anything. Don't know if that is what you meant. Edit - he did buy the Get Better Sound manual from our website, but I didn't talk to him until...

    New CLX Owner

Although Mike doesn't own the GPA Monaco rack at this time, I've owned mine for many years. It's the only rack I've used that performs at or beyond component level, meaning that it very often is capable of a much larger improvement than changing out an amplifier or preamp, and almost always...

I cover this in detail in the manual. Our spatial cues come in part from low frequencies. They arrive at the microphones at slightly different times. With one sub, this info is canceled (phase cancellation). With two (in stereo, not two mono subs), it is preserved. Of course, this is...

Once we found the right crossover point and bass level, it was fairly straightforward to achieve a relatively seamless blend. BTW - The "CLX" setting that we didn't use may very well work in other settings. But Mike's panels, due to his room geometry, had a shallow trough at about 55-60 Hz...

Although I'm not Mike, if you don't mind, maybe I could answer briefly. Final placement was within 1/16th of an inch from a point on the established centerline. Regarding intuitive positioning, honestly speaking, in this case, it was mostly intuitive. Having written the owner's manuals for...

Hmmm... I've wanted to hear to hear these (actually before the ACT, referring here to Frank Chang's devices) in my own room, away from the crowds who seem to be able to be swayed a bit too easily. FWIW - I've sat with Srajan listening, just he and I, on several occasions. He's a good...
