    Center image placement with Vantage/Spire/Summit

After reading some of your posts and responses to the thread on imaging and power conditioners, I tried my system with the amp plugged directly into the wall. I had the amp plugged into an Adept Response 6, which is not supposed to be current limiting. However, with the amp plugged directly...

    Center image placement with Vantage/Spire/Summit

Thanks Fish and Gordon. I appreciate the quick input. Gordon, I think you are spot on with your comments about different gear. In particular, I've experienced a different presentation with tube amps. I also agree about loudness, with higher volumes projecting images out in front more...

    Center image placement with Vantage/Spire/Summit

Thanks Fish... That's an interesting word picture of a big football of sound! How far out do you have your Spires from the front wall? Are you using any absorption or diffusion behind the speakers? How much are they toed in? Thanks, Dave

    Center image placement with Vantage/Spire/Summit

I was just curious about where others are experiencing center images such as female and male vocals, centered instruments, etc. Are these images typically recessed or do they project forward in front of the plane of the speakers. In my system, center images are typically 2 - 4 feet behind the...

    Spires are hard to beat!

Hi Gordon, Thanks for your comments. I would encourage you to listen to the Vandersteens if you are interested. It's always better to actually hear speakers for yourself rather than relying on others' opinions. We all hear differently and have different biases and things that are important...

    Spires are hard to beat!

First, Merry Christmas all! Well, I didn't mean to start a thread to bash Wilsons or any other speaker. My intent was to just share my experience and commenting on just how good the Spires are compared to some other well known contenders. Kevin - I agree with you that the Sasha is a very...

    Spires are hard to beat!

Over the past several months, I have been searching for a new speaker that has all of the qualities of my Spires but with bigger macrodynamics, more body and better off axis listening. My budget has been up to $25,000. What I've learned in the process is that Spires are damn good speakers...

new to club - need suggestion

Hi Miner - I find that the Spires do fine without a sub (or pair of subs) for the music I listen to and how I listen. But I don't do heavy rock or big classical. But for a full measure of stand-up bass, meaty kick drums or electric bass the Spires do well on their own. Gordon - yeah the new...

new to club - need suggestion

McIntosh & ML Yep, I agree with everyone else...it is a great match. I am using a 402 and C2300 preamp and am very happy with the combination. The Mac solid state amps can really handle the low impedance of the Spires.

    System #310 (Spire)

Thanks... ...for all the advice and comments. I'll try to answer your questions. Tom - I don't know what my system # is? I feel stupid! !%$@!^@ How do I look it up? The panels in the center are not a TV or multiple TV's. They are two Ready Acoustic bass trap panels stacked on their...

    System #310 (Spire)

New room pictures... I have moved my system into our basement, which measures 20' X 36' X 9'. It is much larger than my previous room over the garage. Now that things are finally dialed in, the sound is much more spacious, bass is deeper with greater impact and on some material the...

    Integrated Amps

I think there is a section on Amps in the main menu. you might want to check that out. Also, Jeff Dorgay has written reviews of ML speakers including CLX and Spires and he provides some really good direction on SS and tube amps that seem to be good matches with ML speakers. Check out Tone...

    If not ML...what other speaker?

I thought it might be interesting to hear about what other speakers forum members would own, if not ML or after ML. Ever get tempted to try something else? What's next on your "list" after MLs? Sure, I know we all think MLs are great, which they are. But every speaker technology has its...

    Spires walking?

I'll second Gordon's recommendation to put weights on the bass module. I've got 20 pounds on each. While I do not have the "walking" problem since mine are spiked on carpet over concrete, the weights improved the sound in my system by sharpening imaging, reducing smearing and tightening up the...
